Bronco II info

I need to know what tools I need to

-Remove the u bolts off the rear axle
-Remove the shackles and front hanger
-Take apart the leaf pack

I need to grab some leaves from a Bronco II pack

Deep socket and breaker bar (sorry can't remember size, think its 11/16th) for the u-bolts and a 3/4 socket for the spring bolts, to remove the hanger you'll need a grinder/torch/chisel to get the rivets. Leaf pack, a pair of vice grips and ratchet/wrench(cant remember what size).

Visit your local spring shop and buy a set of u-bolts, a pair of center bolts and some quick clips. Get instruction from the spring shop of how to properly use the quick clips. Cut the old bolts off. You should not reuse u-bolts!
If your main leaves are not broke, leave them in. Removing them is very difficult.

And when you disassemble the leaf pack, make sure you have a C clamp on it as the center bolt holds the pack under some tension.

that is not needed to take them apart, but it is needed to put them back to gether.

+1 Helped with installing lifts on multiple vehicles and types. Any of them older than 5 years and DD'ed met the torch.

my stock Bronco II had 5 leafs in the leaf pack.....i added an add-a-leaf to it and got 2" of lift..

Look at that last post, the ranger leafs are not too bad but imaging if you were not in a good position when cutting that center bolt. That can be very dangerous. More than one person has been badly hurt by leaf springs. Better to ehr on the side of caution than to end up with some missing teeth.

that would be correct, he is using the "long" add-a-leaf. there are also "short" add-a-leafs. i agree with mutant pony, throw a rag over the top of the u-bolts and cut them off because they are one time use items and they are a PITA to remove by conventional means. if the shackles and hangers are not rusted out dont mess with them! you will end up very frustrated if you dont have the proper tools to get them off easily ( grinders and everyones favorite blue tipped wrench!). leave the springs attached, clamp the pack, remove the center bolt and add or remove whatever springs you want.

Alright... Now what about those big clams that are riveted into the pack to keep the leaves in line and together. Are those on all packs? Because I just need to grab a couple leaves off a B II at the yard. I dont need the whole pack. Would a battery saw zaw do it?

why are you cutting the center pin? My '86 (22 years old) came out with no problem..... as long as you have the wheels off the truck and NO pressure on the springs (using the jack stands on the frame, not the axle), then the leafs will fall apart, even if you cut the center pin...
