Brake warning lights and guages

Got a '90 Ranger,2.3-auto........I'm "combing" through this truck,as I bought it used and want to keep it.The temp. AND fuel guage don't work,however the volt and oil do.Also,I replaced a bottom spring in the l/r brake (drum brake) and now the brake warning light and rear ABS light are on...note-I realize the lights come on at initial start up and then go off....they do,but come back on after about a minute.-did'nt do this before I replaced the broken spring.Any input appreciated/thankyou.....

sounds like you have a few unrelated issues. The most common problem with the temp gauge is a bad contact as the sensor, just clean the contacts. The fuel gauge problem is more than likely a punctured float in the tank, check the circuit before you pull the tank stuff apart. The brake light could be a choice of things, parking brake on, low fluid, bad connection on rabs controller or tone ring pick up. could be other reasons but these are the most common causes.

Thankyou for input martin........the brake light(s) issue only came about since I pulled the l/r drum off and replaced (was broken)the lower spring that goes from the front shoe to the auto-adjuster,which hooks into the rear shoe.Lights did'nt appear before.Actually,I was only routinely checking for wear/condition on all 4's because I'll need to get this truck safety inspected.
Looks like the fuel tank needs to be dropped in order to access the sending unit.Is this assumption correct?

Or you can take the bed off, either way works.
