Brake pads only wearing on outer 3/4 inch on rotor

Can't figure this out so hoping someone here can point me in the right direction. 2011 Ranger 4WD Extra Cab.

I just installed new brakes, coated rotors. After a few break in stops the pads are only bearing on the outer 3/4 inch or so of the rotors. It seems there's only one way for these to go together - caliper frame into the 2 mounting holes, slides into the two corresponding holes. Pads in the slots. The pads are wearing on only the section highlighted by the yellow arrows. That's like 2/3 of the rotor not being functional.

The caliper seems in the right position, but there is some room between the caliper and the rotor hub. Is this the normal position? If so, it's a pad problem.

I did use the last set of front pads I had laying around from my '02 Ranger, and I lined them up with new ones for the '11 and they were identical. Something I missed? I'm stumped. Anyone know what's wrong so I have some direction when I take them apart and try to get it right?

I'd compare the new pads to the old ones and really look over how it's assembled, obviously something isn't right. Also, the truck is a Supercab, extra cabs were never built by Ford.

It's really hard to assemble them wrong...

I'm going to lean to the rotors/coating have something funky going on.

Do the pads make full contact on the backside of the rotor?

I would also look at the old rotors, if you can. See if they had any funky ware patterns as well. Is it doing this on both sides?

I would think the pad would come to where I have the red arrows, closer to this little lip at the lower arrow?

So when your calipers squeeze the pads, they are only putting pressure at the outer edge of the rotor.

Did you buy the 11" rotors instead of the 12" rotors...

+1 this^^^^^ a picture of the caliper/pads with out the rim would help determine this^^^

I took it apart and inspected. The outer edge of the pads are right on the edge of the rotor. Everything is assembled correctly. A lot of times the pad wears 1/8inch in from the outer edge, but these aren't going to do that. On the inner side of the rotor the pads have full contact. It's just on the outer side they seem to have reduced contact, so I'm going to drive them a while and see if the pads "settle in".

Could be that they gave you the wrong pads or the wrong pads were put in the right box. You should have better coverage toward the inside of the rotor than you do.

Alternatively, they are the right pads but were made incorrectly.
