bottom with a P on it, what's it for .

What!?! You mean you don't like the idea of needing a $400 scan tool to change your rear brake pads?

Nope. Bad enough I had to buy a special caliper kit for when pad changes are due. Not terribly expensive but something extra that needed bought. CHeaper than paying someone to do it for me.

Not the best tool for the job, but only costs about 10 bucks and has worked on every ford with rear discs I've encountered so far...

You can’t put an electric parking brake into service mode with that.

You’re confusing “service required” with “service mode”.

Reason #6741 why things were better in the old days

I had electric parking brakes.

I hope they hate me too.

I want to war with them.

Yeah, you can also look over your right shoulder, and, WOW, figure out, "I am towing a trailer" (in case you forgot it was back there ).
But seriously, a constant audible alarm would be a pain, so I could see a button to disable it.
Don't know if the Parking Assist is standard equipment, if it is the mute button would be great.
My 2009 Base Ranger has something very similar to the audible alarm when backing up...Its a voice yelling "OH SH_T" just before I hit something and slam on the brakes. Works every time !

your better half doesn't ride with you?

well everyone, I was just looking at all these great replies for the button with the P on it, some were really good and some made about as much sense as TRUMP telling everyone he won the election, what a joke .

Do the new rangers have the dumb electric parking brakes? The edge does and that is a big button with a "P" on it...

Nope, they have a cable that pulls a lever to actuate the rear caliper piston. I'm glad they didn't go that route.

I really love how the parking brake lever works. The way my barn driveway is set up on a hill I use the parking brake every time I back out of the barn. I'm not sure, but it feels like it has some kind of gear reduction set-up on it. Easy to actuate, but solid and tight.
