bored and thinking

I hate driving RHD........ I've driven a lot of mail jeeps and they don't do anything special for me at all... shifting left handed sucks!!!!!

is the shift pattern the same as LHD? or is it reversed?

The rhd jeeps ive driven were the same as normal. Other rhd cars i've driven are generally the same but with subtle differences. Lotus and Ferrari have first and second flip flopped, third and fourth flip flopped, etc... Some (not all) Opels and Vauxhals put reverse where first belongs. I forget what it was but i once drove a car set up as such:

1 2 4
R 3 5

might have some names and patterns switched around, its been a while since i worked valet.

I wouldn't call that shift patterned switched around. That's just a trans with a doglegged first gear. That came out of racing so that 2nd&3rd and 4th&5th are aligned since 1st is basicly just used for getting moving from a stop.

I once owned a 72 Datsun BLUEBIRD coupe which is the RHD version of the Datsun 510 sedan. It was a great car & loved it until a bitch ran a stop sign back in 85 when I was visiting relatives 200 miles away.Hit me on passenger side & wiped out the door, the left door, pulled door off & duct taped 8 mil clear sheeting onto vehicle & drove it back home.

yeah but when your shifting lefty and you expect a normal shift pattern its quite a surprise when "2nd" kills the car everytime. after killing it twice i said to myself "fine I'll start off in second." thats when i realized reverse was in a silly place. after that i thought "well if thats reverse then this must be second" and shifted from 1st to 3rd and thought "wtf kinda transmission is this? second sucks nuts" then i shifted into what i thought was 3rd but was actually 2nd and it all made sense to me.

Well, if it makes you feel any better, I've seen worse work with a doglegged trans. On an episode of Top Gear one host, James May, was driving a Mercedes with a similar shift pattern and kept backing up into another host in his car every time he tried to move from a stop and he is already used to left hand shifitng obviously. I never saw it, but his shift pattern MUST of been this:

R 2 4
1 3 5

I would love to have a doglegged 5 speed tho.
