i was looking to turn my truck into a "keeper" kinda build it up and be nice to it. maybe pass it down some day. and get dd econo car.

i was looking to start saving and building but i need a goal. this is were you come in.

the exterior and inside i got all figured and mostly done but the motor is the last step.

i dont mind wrenching, and can do most im just looking for whats worth the time/money vers the out come. and reliable big key word!!!!!!

my ideas:

work the stock motor pullies, port polish, 1.7 rockers ect. chip maf convertion, all the "weekend" kinda stuff........hoping to get close to 200hp

boost the 3.0l keep it simple. 5-7lb boost nothing fancy some thing belt driven
i can get a new belt driven turbo for $1500.................hoping for 225ish+

4.0l swap . an idea. but how easy it is kinda thinking gonna swap i should really swap .............. 2oo hp (or stock)

302/tranny swap. maybe fuel injected. nothing crazy. kinda worried about the DMV tho..............................................mmmmm horsepower

your 2 cents please

well im doing the turbo 3.3, you know this...lol v8 is interesting, and if im not mistake the stock 4.0 pushes around 160 hp in older models, newer ones in the 200 range. either way 4.0 and v8 youll have to change the tranny and driveshaft, plus the wiring etc. the advantage of a carb v8 setup is simplicity in tuning, downside: retuning carb constantly unless only driving a few months of the yr. fuel injection is a given for year round performance, just depends on how much work you want to do. a 4.0 is easier wiring wise as you can find a donor vehicle and swap stuff out, v8 kind of hard as fabrication and custom parts and adapters are def required. i chose to rebuild my 3.0 because its all there, just changing the tranny for strength and redoing the rest of the system for tuning purposes, otherwise everything else is there, no cutting/major engine mount fab necessary. but if you want more options from the aftermarket and want easier to achieve hp, go ahead and do the swap. stock 4.0 sohc and v8 easily give you the 200 you want w/ little other mods. i just want to be dif...
