Hello,
So I’ve got a 1987 Eddie Bauer Bronco ii with a 88” 2.9l engine and swapped a manual transmission into it with the 4:10 gear ratio on there. I’m having issues bogging down a little bit every time I hit 3,000 rpm. I’ve been hesitant to take it on the highway since last time I lost all power.

Figured out it was something to do with my wiring coming loose on the control board. Since then I’ve replaced the air filter which I found a hole on the housing and threw some jb weld on to fix. Also replaced the Throttle position sensor and the fuel pump wasn’t done to long ago. As well I replaced the water pump. I’ve seen two leaks I know these are notorious for having and that’s the gaskets for the valve covers and the timing cover. Not sure if that would have anything to do with it.

Looking forward to getting this old girl up and running 100% and hopefully off road ready soon. Thanks for any feedback!

Nick v.

Clogged fuel filter, or clogged exhaust would be the first two things I'd look at.

I did notice my exhaust sounds a little throatier then usual. Thanks for the tip

Definitely not the fuel filter, replaced that today. Did notice I’m getting no pressure from the release valve. It bubbled up a little bit I tried to turn it over and got nothing. Tried again on the pressure release a second time and absolutely no pressure.

I'm going to try replacing both fuel pumps next.

I missed a fuel filter. I figured out there are 2... so I burnt out the new high pressure pump. I’m replacing both today. Does anyone know if this wired correctly for the polarity?
