Body Lift problem

I have a 1985 ford ranger standard cab, and i have just done a 3" body lift on it and it will not shift into 4L or, 1st gear.

Adding extensions will not solve your problem, they will still hit the same spot but will just be longer. You will have to either clearance the tunnel so it will clear with some extra space so it wont pop out or bend your shifters to clear the floor, Option two is my favorite as you dont have to worry about a wierd looking boot but can take some time as it usually is trial and error to get it to clear and still feel good.

linkage extensions should be available from the same place you bought the lift. sorry i couldn't help more, but i didn't have that problem with my 2 inch body lift.

but by cutting out the floor i will not be able to use the boot, becuase the shifter hits first the boot.

I did this with my '88. Trim the floor pan to give yourself room to run the shifters through the ranges. I made a custom boot frame to allow the extended shifter movement and attached the boots to the plate and screwed it down. You have to make enough clearance to allow for the boot too, so factor that in.

I'll shot some today. That project has been buttoned up for a while now so it's all finished product and it's raining (?) so no under shots.

I feel your pain about working, I'm a 60-70 hr a week guy myself.

U gotta adjust the transfer case shifter from underneath its got 2 bolts one is a pivot point and the other has some adjustment in it. I'm not sure about the first gear tho? What tranny do u have?

It cured mine, my knob was sucked way down in the boot and would hardly move.

I just made an extention that was completely down in the boot that put the knob back in the right place and it worked perfectly. I don't know of any that are commercially available.

It was just a hunk of shaft the same size as the existing lever welded to a pipe that fit over it with a tapped 1/4" hole and a bolt acting like a setscrew. I just guessed and figured that 3" of shaft + whatever was in the tube. I put it in '06, still works perfect. Dunno what you have access to but I used got the shaft out of a junk tractor starter and it happened to be the perfect size.

For the transmission shifter, on the shift linkage you will find a bolt that locks the linkage coming down from the shifter to the round shaft going to the tranny. It will take a little trial and error to get it to come out right.
