blown up 4.0

I'm not sure what Mexican Overdrive is, but I'm still laughing!:icon_rofl:

I bent a valve in mine. Pulling the heads tomorrow to check for piston damage.

Was heading up Bluet Pass after cutting from I-90 and heading to US Highway 2 to head over to Seattle, and was trying to stay at 70 on the mountain. Floated the valve, heard a CLANG, and the engine lost all power. Lost power steering, lost power brakes (actually lost brakes completely).

4 dead cylinders, and 40 miles later, I found somebody who was able to tell me absolutely nothing. Ended up spending more then I came with.

The truck had been sitting in my field for about 4 months, but I just pulled it up to the garage last weekend, and now I see what the problem is.

Mexican Overdrive = Neutral for more speed

same thing

My first 4.0L meet its demise at 200,008 miles with the exact same damage in the exact same spot on the block. I saw these photos and took a double take because they are identical to my own. However, it didn't happen the same way. My 400+ pound cousin decided to beat the living hell out of the truck along side his twin brother of near equal size. So the truck wound up in my hands where it now has a much lower miliage motor with very little abuse under the hood.

Here's the broke 4.0L from one of the trucks I owned while SASing my green one. Buddy wound it out in 5th down hill, grabbed mexican overdrive then popped it back into 3rd instead of 5th when he threw a rod.

still kickin

208K miles and strong as hell on my SuperCab. Fingers crossed for 250K

I tried a shot of giggle gas at 2000 rpm in 5th.:icon_twisted:

I ended up with holes in piston #2 & #6.

It still ran, but had a major amount of blow-by!:icon_surprised:

that hole threw the block is amazing. As for the fire alan d, thats a sad sad story and a very piss poor way to go.

Had he only blown out the oilpan, I would have had a decent shortblock to work with as it only had 130k on it....but thats just not how it happened sadly.
