I have a 2001, 2.5L,4 cyl, 2 wd, auto OD trans, Ranger. It has been blowing the od servo cover and dumping all trans fluid. I have replaced the snap ring((pain in the butt!) and it just blows it again. I love my truck but don't trust it to drive as I have been stranded 4 times with this same problem. When this happens, I pull over immediately and shut the engine off. I have had the tranny out, it is clean and shiny, does not smell burnt, red fluid, absolutely no gunk. Once I replace the servo cover and snap ring, then fill with fluid, it shifts and runs perfectly-until it blows the servo cover again. Does any one have any ideas as to what's going on? I am the original owner, bought in nov. 2000 with 3 miles on it. It has 66,000 miles now.

There was a TSB about weak servo covers on those trucks. Make sure you're getting the right ones. Also, another TSB deals with valvebody gaskets blowing out due to high line pressures. Make sure that has been done as well.

The only thing i can think of is the snap ring groove in the case is bad and not holding in the snap ring like it should..could of been a bad machining job from the get go. If it keeps blowing snap ring out and not breaking the cover i think i would start looking for another case.

Just my opinion

Thanks guys, I'll try these things and let you know how it goes. Any and all comments are greatly appreciated.
