so i did the cross member swap at school. some di**hole swapped my hubs so when they were "free" they were really locked. i blew the ring gear to hell. if i can swap in a yj dana 30 with the same ratios will my stock driveshaft bolt up? will it need retubed? i kno ill need to do a manual hub conversion on it.:icon_welder:

Dude, that sucks. That there is the reason I don't let other people work on my junk.

Asfor the drivehshaft bolting up I think it is the same U joint and everything. I'm not sure about having to legthen or shorten in it tho.

its stuff like that why i never let loosers touch my vehicle when i was doing the auto school thing. a real cheap fix could be just pickn up a 3rd member at the junk yard, i see you are in colorado, have ya ever been to western auto salvage off of 58? and federal ? i got a whole front end for 100$ and if you were just to take the 3rd, it would probably be under 60$. Sorry to hear the bad news, its a scary thought that some of these people who are going to school for automotive are planning on working on any vehicle at all. What school do you attend?

dude I got that 3rd if you need it. i will check the ratio on it tonight.
Dont know if I would bother doing a yj d30, its weaker than the d35

well, i was working on my truck and i guess when i had my back turned it was done. im pretty shure my ratios are 3.73's. crawlin let me kno how much that pig will be and if its 3.73's.

beaterman. i attend pickins tech.

Boom!

Lets see some carnage pics!

That sux man.

I will look and post up soon as I know.

Did the pig get wrecked or just the gears? I have a spare set of 3.73's for the D35 that I will send you for shipping costs. Let me know, I can get it out tomorrow or Friday if need be.

where is pickins tech at? +1 on seeing some carnage pics!

good news i ripped the diff apart. no broken parts. i tore everything apart i broke a shaft, knuckle, thrashed rotors and pads, and toasted all my wheel bearings. its looking like the diff's internals are A OK:yahoo: my hubs are fine too!. i will be replaceing all that crap asap. my buddy owes me some cash so hes grabing 2 sets of bone yard shafts. so im going back out and cleaning this bad boy up:D man im so happy my front end isnt toast:icon_hornsup:

how did your gears blow by having your hubs locked? front locked?

i dont get that either, as long as there was oil in it, it shoulnt have done anything but maybe bind a little in tight turns, heck i sometimes have my hubs locked from dec-feb and only put it in 4-wheel when it need to be. now, if one hub was locked and the other side wasnt i could see it causeing a issue on the unlockedside from the shaft turning the opposite direction of the hub, but that should only hurt the hub idler bearing, sue the spiders would be going to town, but if the oil was at the proper level it shouldnt be a issue.

i guess i had severe binding going on. i had a small viberation before all this happend. when it all went to hell i thought it was the front diff. im glad i was wrong. i have checked and rechecked the internals for damage and have none. i was a little low on fluid though
