I have a 97 ranger daily driver that wheels on the weekends and I'm wondering how big of a tire I should put on. I have a 4.0L stick and I want some bigger tires (getting a suspension lift not sure on height yet) but I dont want to make it drive slugglish or have to change any gearing. suggestions?

33's are about the limit, depending on what gear ratio you have

personally, for a dd, i wouldn't go over 32's.

i would just get 31s or 32s put explorer springs in the back and a leveling kit in the front with a few washer cheap lift will get about an inch or little more in the back and then just get the leveling spring for the front and add some washers under them to make the front the same as the back

Depends what gears you have in there now really...

If you have 4.10s, you could run 33s without any issue behind a 4.0l. Maybe even 35s.

Then again, you could have like 3.27 gears at which point 31s are probably too big.

33's are sweet for a dd/ww build IMO. i wouldn't want anything smaller. i have 30's and want more (of course).. if you have 4.10's i'd say 33's.. if you don't have 4.10's--- get them. lol

how much would it cost to go 4.10's? I'm pretty sure there 3.73's right now. and how hard is it to change the gearing?

Depends on where you go. Gears alone are kinda pricey, since yours is 4wd you need to do both sets and they are almost 300 a set then installation.

might want to mock everything up before you start going into gearing. your def going to need a leveling kit or something to stuff some bigger tires in there. my 2005 needed a 1 inch torsion crank to fit the 32s in there good.

you may not even have to regear if the tires dont fit

more than likely you have 3.73's. i basically have the same truck on 32's with a leveling kit. i think its geared fine. i eventually want to go 33x10.5's and i believe i will still be fine but at 33's i would say 4.10's if you still plan on going off road.
the only time i notice any slow acceleration is on a hill. i just shift a little higher and its fine

so needless to say. i would throw in a leveling kit and go 32's. look at my avatar or in my album for a bigger picture

no I have 3.27 and they blow ha. once I get the money my friend with a shop is helping me put in 4.10's with a lsd.

might as well do and lsd while youre in there anyway. good luck with it man hopefully it turns out sweet :icon_thumby:

well if you're going 4.10's then go for 33's. you're going to need at least 3 or 4" of lift though. should be sweet
