Best Thing You've ever sold

The guy I'm selling it to had an A and I care more about it getting on the road again than the money. He's a cool dude - has restored 240Z's etc.

:icon_thumby:

too much of these old cars are seeing a horrible end.glad this one has some hope left.

I would have loved that car. Mid 1980's 2.7L SC will be my weekend warrior (hopefully after about another 5 years from now.) Were the gaskets and carbs (Zenith/Solex/Weber) the only thing wrong with it (why is wasn't running for more than a few minutes)?

This is currently my other project: Stock & very original, matching #'s 914/6 that came with the 2.0T from Germany. Special tools, galore! (i.e.: 46mm crows foot?) I'm hoping for 125hp stock on a 1,900# body. I've rebuilt the rack, entire brake system (pedal cluster to caliper cylinder), powdercoated & rebuilt suspension, full rebuild on the tranny, and am waiting for pistons & cylinders to come back from the machine shop. Rebuilding the Weber triple throat carbs now...

The last year, IIRC, was 1979 when they still used the full magnesium cases for the 2.7L. They were stressing the limits with the displacement, while the dilaver head studs werent all that great either (they were steel or a composite) and pulled out under a lot of stress & heat. Another reason for improper cooling was the fan: it only had 9 blades as opposed to a more efficient 11.

The mechanical chain tensioners are fine, but fail after use & fatigue. I plan on doing your upgrade to the hydraulic tensioners when I get closer to that part of the build.

Helicoil and case savers are a PITA. I assisted a friend once with a spark plug...yea, not again.

In this case, I would have preferred the #2 to the "Deuce", too! :icon_rofl:

Haaa!!! I love those old 914's!!! A fun little light weight car. I had a few friends who had them and I really liked them!!! The motors and trannys work great in the old VW's with some mods to get them fitted!!!!! Man!! What a combo!!!

Here is my old 911S motor after I got ready to put it back in. I need to scan my old scrapbook. I have a few photos of my duck tailed warrior!!!!

Nice - What year? Did it make your ears pop when you shut the doors? Mine did.

1962 FJ Landcruiser 4 door wagon no rust, big 6, 4 speed, just a monster wagon.
1967 Wagoneer, buick 350 v8, 3 on the tree, no rust, would do 90+mph up Donner Summit @ over 5k feet elev.
1964 Corvair convertible, flat 6, auto, just plain fun.
1968 IH Travelall, 392 v8, auto, 4wd, rode like a Caddy.
all gone forever.

Damn, that's gorgeous. That's the color scheme I am going with (silver/black). I am also thinking the Guards Red. Twin plugged?

Yea, I've met only 2 original /6's. I've seen a few other conversions, but they don't warrant nearly the resale as this one could have (possibly in the $30-35K). Hope I do this build right...

Is that a stock fan?

Why would it make your ears pop? From the vacuum/enclosed space?

My pre ban 1994 rugger mini 14 to buy my bronco. :yahoo:

My dumdest sale was my 1967 mustang fastback 4 speed 289. my brother picked it up for $250at a junk yard in Rode ISland and brought it down to me in South Carolina. I ended up selling it for a worn out 1960 ford pickup and a 750 Norton motorcycle basket case. :bawling:Never did get the Norton runnig.

Mine was a 72 911S. It was imported from Germany when I bought it from an AF officier who bought it over there, He had trouble driving it and had it for about 5 years. It needed some work from sitting for a few years when he bought it. The doors closing never hurt my ears...but then again this 911S was a street leagal race car that had no back seat and was stripped down and it had light weight everything.

No, it was an Factory Kit racing unit that mounted to the factory location. It was just a bit bigger internally and it was better for cooling and performance and not as noisy as Porsche fans can be at times.

I got a 1990 F150 single cab long bed at auto shop my sofmore year, There was a bunch of junk cars just sitting out back and they were getting rid of them. The F150 belonged to a teacher who moved to Kodiak and said they didn't want it because it wouldn't start so there wasn't really a point to selling it long distance. They came over signed the title, gave me the keys for free, next day I pulled it in the shop charged the battery replaced the starter and sold it the next week for 1,800 bucks.

1966 Triumph Bonneville T120TT
1967 Triumph T100C
1968 Triumph Bonneville
1969 Triumph TR6R
1970 Triumph TR6C
1974 Triumph T100

1975 Honda XR75

Of these the hardest one to sell was the Honda. Odd, yes. My father had purchased for me when I was 4 to learn to ride, and later I used it to play around on once in a while. A couple of years back we did a complete resto on it like we do the Triumphs and ended having a guy from Georgia purchase it.

The one I wish I would not have sold was the '69 TR6R; that one one of the best Triumphs I have ridden to date.

Dunno about bikes, but these Triumphs would be awesome:

So you've been rebuilding bikes since...forever?

Pete

Tinkering with them since high school. Finishing up a couple of Yamahas currently, as well as finishing up a scratch built Triumph-ish thing.
