I've never been in a 2.3L but the 3L and 4L will drink gas like theres no tomorrow if you have a lead foot like me and my friends, but if you keep out of it the 3.0L will get roughly 22 or so MPG. But when I drive, I usually get like 15-16

I've had (3) Rangers, a 94, 98 & my 01 all 4.0L's, I wouldn't trade the power for anything. As far as MPG's my 94 & 01 gave a steady 20MPG on the highway and 15-16 around town unless I got a little leadfooted. My 98 never did better than 15 sometimes dipping to 12 while (2) local Ford seervice departments said they couldn't detect a problem, that was the reason I traded that for my 01. I still have to vote for the 4.0L.

Really dont want to spend over 5,000. Depends what the pay is at my job I guess. Not sure what the entry level truck driver pay is.
