I'm taking the cab off my '98 Ranger 4x4 with 3.0 engine and have everything disconnected but the transmission linkage. I'm trying to figure out the best place to disconnect the linkage that's easy and I won't risk breaking any unobtainum parts. Any suggestions?

Im not quite sure what you mean here, it has a cable, just pop it off. :dunno:

Pardon me, hadn't worked on it for a while and had forgotten it was a cable. I'm a little wary of just popping it off, some of the parts are either expensive or unobtainium if I break them.

clean it first to reveal what, if any, tabs you may have to carefully bend.
I have a 2000 on stands, it's too late today for a good look. maybe tomorrow.

Get a trim tool, use it to pry the cable away from the pin on the manual lever of the transmission. Nothing should break doing it that way.

Don't forget that there is also a bracket holding the cable to the side of the transmission that should be unbolted.

For the purpose of pulling the cab this really is the best way to disconnect it. Your only other option is to unhook it from the column and try to feed it through the firewall while you are trying to lift/set the cab. Unless you have an actual automotive lift you are using for this that is a dicey proposition in both directions.

Cable end came right off, the bracket was more of a battle. Thanks!
