What is the best higher than stock amperage alternator to get for a 2.9? I need to upgrade from my stocker (anyone know the stock amperage?).

Where is the best place to get them?

that is an upgrade for the 2.3, 3.0, and 4.0. My Bronco II has the 2.9 v6 which has a different mounting than the 2.3, 3.0, and 4.0.

The 2.9 and the 4.0 are basically the same block, so wouldn't the alt. bracket from the 4.0 fit on the 2.9?

Alternator mounting is different from the 2.9 to the 4.0.

The alternator bracket bolts to the block and head on the 2.9
and to the head only on the 4.0.

and while the 2.9 and 4.0 are from the same engine family the block
and heads are very different.

the later design alternator can be adapted, but you have to search the ford CAR section of the junkyard to find a "pivot bolt mounting" version of the alternator
AND the truck section of your junkyard for the alternator harness.

It's a PITA but not impossible to retrofit the later design alternator into an '86-92 RBV.
But the "three bolt" type frame just isn't gonna happen as easily...

And the "easy way" would be to fabricate a bracket.

Couldn't you get your current alternator rebuilt with higher output internals? Not sure if it's possible, just throwing out ideas...

It would cost too much to have that done....

I ordered a 200A PowerMaster unit from Summit. PowerMaster says their 200A alternator makes 140A at idle and 200A at around 2200 rpm...can't wait to get that sucker installed!

I am going to upgrade the power supply wire to 4AWG wire also.
