I have a 2001 XLT 2.5L 2wd automatic

What I am looking for is a 5.0 swap from an explorer

I also want to rob a few other parts

8.8 rear with traction lok disk brakes and 31 spline shafts

and then a few minor things like

Overhead console auto dimming mirror and double sunvisors with lighted mirrors

is there a specific year explorer that will have this all in one shot?

also what years will be the least hassle with the PATS system

I know I need the ECU and all the harnesses etc from the explorer but are there any other things to watch for other than PATS and computer?

also can I use the transmission from the explorer?

I want to keep it an automatic so what trans will I need if not the explorers?

I keep finding information for 19xx-2000 rangers or 2002-20xx rangers but my year seems to get skipped and as I dont know enough I figure ask those that do

Check out the table labelled "Ranger - Explorer Comparisons".

Looks like you want '99-'01 Explorer (for a similar fuel system). Look for a 2wd version if you want to use the trans.
