Bench Seat Console Lid Latch busted

Does anyone have a clever fix for an armrest lid that won't latch? I've got a bungee cord wrapped around it that looks like cr*p. It appears the protrusion on the latch attached to the lid is torn off and I'm guessing that's needed when jamming it into the lower part. Can't find a replacement part anywhere.

Any suggestions? Surely I'm not the only one to have one of these plastic things torn off. Thanks!

What if you epoxied a magnet to one side and a hunk of metal to the other. They sell them for cabinet doors at lowes or home depot. A little two ton epoxy should stick well to the inside plastic

dont worry u aint alone ive searched several partyards only to find the similar rangr to have them previously removed,,, or busted just the same. i also used the bungy cord for a temp fix but i found some heavy duty velcro strips used for tool boxes in semi trucks its been there for three months and no problems plus its cheap

even if the latch is functioning correctly its still a shit design. only the front of it is sealed. so if I need to squeeze someone in the middle seat, all the change and screws and shit in there falls behind

or you could just cut the recoil springs, use some velcro strips and out a piece of plexi glass in the top...

Somebody here long ago used the cap from a Sharpie marker pen to repair the latch. Cut the pocket clip off so a small nub is sticking out at the end, then slide it over what's left of the latch prong (gluing it in place).
This might not work if the entire prong is broken off though. The magnet idea sounds like it'd work well if the magnets are strong enough (use neodymium ones)

You could just make your own lid. Mine is 1/4" alum. plate but I'm sure you can use thinner plate.

and then I used a rod I rudley made into a lipped locking meck.

I am the one who used the sharpie marker cap. It is still working to this day. That was over 5 years ago when I did it. There was no part of the upper latch left , I just cut the pocket clip a little to make a hook and put the cap up in the hole where the original latch would have been, I hold it in with a small screw threw the side of the lid into the cap. The cut pocket clip catches the bottem part of the console when you close the lid. You push the button and the lid releases as it should, close the lid and it clicks shut like it should. I had pics on here a while back , but I dont know what happened to them. If anyone needs pics, I can try and take some and email them. I do not know how to post pics on here.

I'll help keep an old post alive...

If your console lid is sagging when you use it as an arm rest, you've no doubt discovered its because the plastic underside has cracked. I pulled back the felt cover on the inner map packet(?) that attaches to the backside of the armrest lid to remove the screws that hold it to the lid, providing you access to the hinge screws. I then took an old flat metal license plate, and drilled several holes around its outer edge, then screwed this plate onto the plastic backside of the armrest lid. Some triming is required to clear the latch and hinge area, but this metal reinforcement works great to firm up the lid when it's reattached to the console. I can now rest my arm on the lid without fear the cover is going to snap inward.

This fix is simular to the one sold for the Explorer console lids.
