First off, I would like to thank those of you who have offered your experience and insight which has helped me along my project of replacing the clutch in my truck. I currently have a freshly cut flywheel installed along with a new rear main seal and all new clutch components. I am ready for the new slave and tranny, but I have heard of lots of problems bleeding the system. The slave is still out, what is the most foolproof process in a '95, 3.0L 4x4? Thanks

The master cylinder is the thing to worry about. If that is already in the truck and bled then you are good. Just install the tranny, plug the line into the slave, and bleed it.

Thanks for that information, that makes it simple. I have read that the mazda tranny, which I apparently have, leaks fluid from rubber plugs on the top. I haven't seen any evidence of a leak, or rubber plugs. Where would these be located? I don't want to leave any maintenance issues undone while it is still apart. Thanks again.

Look in the Technical Library. There is a write-up on it with pictures which should send you on the right path. Look under Manual Transmissions for "Shift Rail Plug Maintenance".

In the unlikely circumstance that you do end up having trouble with the clutch hydraulics, the procedure to bleed the entire system in shot basically comes down to unbolting the master from the firewall and inverting it, then running a bleed line from the slave up into the reservoir. At that point you can just push and release the clutch piston for a minute or so and all air will be transferred up the line and released in the reservoir. Done deal.

The rubber plugs are located on the top of the trans on the back of the shifter housing.
