hey guys, planning on putting bedliner on my BII on the bottom 10" or so of the body. I've seen several different bedliners and I have a specific goal with the texture and lustre of it.

First, I'd like it as fine a texture as possible. The problem I have with herculiner is that it ends up with large spikes and bumps sticking off. One guy I knew had herculined his entire truck and it would give you road rash if you barely brushed against it in the garage. A guy I work with has Gatorhide on his truck and it has a really fine texture to it, but...

Second, I'd like it as flat/dull as possible. Gatorhide and herculiner both have a shiny look that I'm not a fan of. It makes it look like it's supposed to be clean, whereas the dull stuff looks exactly the same whether it's clean or dirty.

I saw a truck covered with Speedliner and it looked pretty close to how I want...the texture wasn't as fine as Gatorhide but the finish was dull like I like.

I haven't seen enough line-x or any of the other brands up close to see which one I like best. Hopefully one of you guys can help, close up pics are even better.

my grandpa has line-x in his bed and it doesnt really have shine too it. i knew a kid that speedlined his jeep and it was duller than the line-x though.

No pics but a buddy of mine has his entire jeep in line-x. Not too textured and not shinny. Seems to work well for him. Hope that helps.

I am a firm beliver in line-x it looks shinny when first applied but it will dull

Herculiner will dull wiht time, my bed has.

Be anal with prep,because shiny or dull, if starts coming off, its gonna look like shit. Don't ask me how I know.

My dad's work truck has a rhino liner in the back, it's very dull (and sticky) and isn't rough feeling...

ok line-x is ok if you want it for looks only the stuff will flex with the metal as it gets hit but is thin and will scrape off...... i had to do alot of repairs in the beds when i worked there..... i found that the hurculiner is better against scratches..... i did my rockers on my 98.... to get the fine texture out of hurculiner as i did you need to use a drill to mix it up and break up the particles and then spray them.... heres some pics of my rockers i sprayed with hurc....

what did you spray it with?

If I could get the necessary equipment to spray it I'd do it myself.

very cool...that just leaves me with finding someone with a compressor that can provide 8cfm@90psi. I have a buddy that paints cars all the time so I'm betting he has a compressor in his shop that will do it.

A long time ago... I had my '84 BII painted by MAACO. They offered a 3M product that was applied to the bottom 8" -10" of the body. It acted as a rock guard, it was clear, a little bumpy (but not noticeable) and kept the road rash down.

I've seen that too...and it would be a great option in most other cases but this one.

My BII has gotten water in the doors, which presumably was let in by bad window seals. It proceeded to rust out from the inside, so the paint is bubbling up in a few places along the bottom edge of both doors. I'm going to cut it out and weld in new pieces, but I'm not the body work type. Bedliner would allow me to cover it up without having to put too much effort into making it mirror smooth, and it would also keep me from having to match 19 year old metallic paint. I'm just gonna primer it and cover it with bedliner.

there is a company that the local ford dealer is using for a spray in bed liner... have you gone in to your local ford to see if they have someone? it's a good material and it can be color matched to whatever you want... if at all.
