Bed Bolts (Torx size)

If you have a good impact and a quality t55 socket it'll come right out. It would be good to spray it with PB Blaster though. Good Luck.

I posted this earlier but what size are the bolts, thread and length ?

It was mentioned to have replacement ready; I am getting ready to put on the Flareside and wanted to replace the bolts without going to Ford.

Yeah where can I get replacements other than Ford?
I just got the bed off my '03, I only broke 1 but the other 5 don't look so hot. I need 1 of the hangers too, that one that broke ain't comin out...

On my '87 it's just that special bolt and a large clip nut.... once you get the bed off you can remove the clip nuts off the frame and just use new clip nuts with long grade 8 bolts that match each other.

Dang, I wish mine came out as easy as some of you said yours did. I have a Washington truck (no rust) and I soaked them a few days before. Five foot cheater bar, one broken ratchet, two snapped extensions, and a few cutting wheels later, they were off.

Mine came out with an impact gun and a T55 socket. No lube, no rust.
I believe they are 1/2 inch bolts. I have a friend that replaced them with regular head bolts.
I plan on pulling mine out and placing an anchor point under the bolt heads. 6 new anchor points in the bed, directly to the frame.

What they are is what they are...
Can't say if they will seize up or not, some do some don't.

My '98 broke one bolt and they were rusted bad.
The '03 was in great shape and none broke.
I didi exactly what you did with the lube, BP Blaster one week before and everyday after work until the '98's came out.

New replacement bolts and clip nuts are big, lite-galvi'd and expensive so luck to ya.
Salvage yards might have something, look under the trucks see what kind of rust is on the bolts, who know you might get lucky.

As I said I bought new, I just wanted to have new bolts with the new bed.

so far ive found that the best torx sockets are made by the brand LISLE. not cheap, but worth the money. spray everything down with wd40 or pb blaster and let it sit overnight. if the bolt starts to come but then gets tight, go back in a turn and back out. keep doing that until things are smooth. ive never broken any bolts but i have broken those fancy speed clips and ford wants like $10 for each haha!

For all those that are searching to remove bed to replace fuel filler assembly...it is a T55 from osh cost 4.99...a few shots of WD40 on top and on bottom...and a 1/2" drive electric dew alt or other electric impact. Not scary at all.
Now time for a b and a few calls to my buds to help lift.

I used a little homebrew penetrating oil on mine and they came out with my impact without breaking one. I do not recommend doing this at night though, as it turns the bed of your truck into a percussion instrument and I woke up quite a few neighbors. :icon_thumby:

I still say use a 4 1/2 inch angle grinder then buy new bolts. I don't have patients..... and it only took me and one of my wifes girlfriends to lift off the old 7 foot bed and then put the new one back on.

Don't lie, you just wanted an excuse to make lots of noise and sparks to impress your wife's lady-friend. :icon_welder:
