Beating the tire questions to death

to answer your original question: at stock height for a 2wd it's common to find rangers running 30x9.50 tires but I have seen 31's and 32's but that might require some trimming and without re-gearing your axle the bigger you go the more sluggish it will be. I ran 30" bfg all terrains with stock suspension and unfortunately still run them with my lift but they are a good all around tire however I can't speak for performance in snow...I live in the valley of CA. if I were you I'd get the all terrains and chains. but again I have no experience in snow

3.73 gears, at least that's what I believe stock is. Just kind of weighing the pro/cons of lifting bigger tires etc... I want to keep the great handling gas mileage, and all around daily driverness of the truck, which pretty much limits out the bigger mods-suspension, and stuff. i just wish it sat a bit higher. But didn't need a 4wd in IL and I was driving an 1hr to college everyday, and i didn't know the snow in wi was so bad so I need to do something to get around the snow, basically if there was a way to make it sit higher have better snow abilities, and retain good daily driver manners is what I'm looking for.

i'm sure moving up to 30's won't ruin your handling and gas mileage that much, assuming you go with a tire like the BFG All terrain

was thnking 265/70/15 about 29.7 inches, I believe theses should fit give me a bit better height, and since there ats be better in snow, but beeing taller would they hurt my snow abilities? Don't think it would kill the driverness to much.

I'm not sure, but i don't see them being worse in the snow then straight up street tires.

There were several gear ratios available. There is no one "stock gear ratio". I wish people could understand that.

actually I wasn't aware of that, but my factory build sheet says 3.73 so that's what I have unless the first owner changed em. So thinking than the 265/70/r15 about 1.7 inches bigger than stock, and in general grabber all terrain, I have a program so I can adjust the stock pcm with no issues.Thinking this will give that little raise I'm looking for better snow abilities, without to negatively affecting the handling driveabiltiy braking towing etc... what do you think. also does anyone have pics of what this would look like on a stock 2wd xlt suspension.

id go 235/75 r15 they are also 29 in tall but not as wide. wider tires kill gas mileage

Wide tires are not what you want for snow, even with 4x4. Some actually call their Winter tires "pizza cutters" because of the width. Allows you to cut thru the snow to ground and traction. Good tread pattern and compound makes a lot of difference to.

get studded snow tires in the size that says on your door stickers..

Studded tires not an option here for many, many years (35?) Chains yes.

I'm thinking the 235/75/15 in all terrian, should provide just what I'm looking for. thanks for the advice, just out of curiosity these will fit on my stock rims right.Currently running 225/75/15 so not that much of a difference. And studs are illegal, and cops in wi are mean not as bad as Il but still mean

Yeah, that was just a vent. We get so many people who come in here and ask "what gears did Rangers have stock?" like there was only one.

Anyway, I find that round tires are far superior to square or even tri-square tires in almost all situations. You won't see much of a difference on Australian "washboard" roads.

understandable, just the first truck I've had. and hover jets beat tires any day of the week
