I want to change out the battery wires and the battery terminals on my 96 ranger.. I bought and used the Scosche High Power Gold Battery Terminal and let me tell you i had so many problems... I would go to the store and shut my truck off and then come back and start the truck back up and all i would hear is click and then i would have to go over and move the terminals and then it would start right up.. Don't matter how many times i would clean the terminals and then remount and wait a while and then it would happen again...So i got rid of them and now i want new ones and i not sure if the marines ones wing nut won't come off or if the Tsunami 24K gold plated battery block terminal where any good .. So my question would be which one to get and won't give me and shit and has anyone used the
24K gold plated negative battery block terminal before??? I am also running offroad lights and hope pretty soon a winch or more offroad light..

Honestly I haven't had too many problems with a basic, super generic terminal clamp.

I'm cheap, so I'd probly just go to the junk yard and pick up a set off a lower mileage truck.

ya i just bought some 1.99 specials at my auto store, paid 4 dollars total....and i'm in good shape right now i'm just gonna keep an eye on them and make sure it doesn't corrode...

if you keep a basic socket set, some pliers and wire cutters in your rig, the basic cheapo connectors work fine...you can always have an extra set in the car for just in case.

I am trying to do it once and the right way and not have to worry about!!!!

You don't need $16 MIL-SPEC terminals, gold plated bling or any of that other silly shit.

Get standard cable/terminals and a set of treated felt washers: clean the battery posts with corrosion remover, rinse, clean again, rinse again and install the washers, then the terminals. Coat the whole assembly in battery connection sealant (the red spray) a time or two, and ANY time you break the sealed connection, re-seal it. Keep the top of the battery clean to keep the corrosion down.

That's all you need to do. Period. If you want longer bolts to add more connections, do that, just make sure they and the nuts are stainless.

I've experimented with several different battery terminals but never tried any of the gold plated fancy ones.

I have come to hate the cheap lead ones, after awhile they always seem to get badly deformed and need to be replaced. Plus the factory pressed on ones never seem to have enough places to tap onto for accessories.

My Ranger came factory with these sorta stamped steel looking things (I think they're nickel plated brass or the like). They worked pretty good and I started replacing terminals on my trucks with ones that looked the same from Wal-mart.... bad idea.... I can't tell you how many of them I've had crack before I wised up (at least a half a dozen). I also had one corrode to junk in short order. Chinese junk...

I have now progressed to experimenting with the brass marine terminals you can find at Autozone that look a lot like a cheap lead terminal but have a wing nut. Then I've put lugs on all the wires and stuck it on. Makes it easy to add another wire at a later point. I've also put a regular nut on with a lock washer instead of the wing nut. So far so good.

One other thing I've done before is to coat the terminal and the battery post with dielectric grease, it seems to work adequate for deterring corrosion.

would dielectric grease help protect the connections from corrosion from dissimilar metals

Not sure... I use it on all automotive electrical connections though and it seems to discourage any sort of corrosion.

I cant remember what the brand is, but i have a set of quick connect marine style battery terminals from orileys on my BII.

Here's a pic of the battery and connectors.

sorry for the crappy pic it's from my cell phone.

As for corrosion I use the red stuff that you spray on the backs of brake pads to stop them from squeaking on the bottoms of both terminals.

Those look like bike seat clamps... that's kind of cool

I would recommend a set of cheapo autostore marine-style terminals. Easy on the wallet and they give you an extra attachment point for your stuff.
