Battery Recomendations

Yea I we run alot of odysee batts in our jet-boats up here, the little tiny ones to save weight for fuel and meat. I have duels in my jet-boat with a perko switch and never a problem.

i think deka makes my group 31's. 350 bux for two of those.

i keep 3 batteries in my ranger two in my stroker van and two in the escort.

went to the 31's in the ranger after wiping out the last optima....once priced the optimas were out of range for me.

the new Optima are debatable.. i've had lots of local guys with extremely bad luck with them since that new-er company took over.. i had a yellow top die in less than a year, got it replaced and the new one is dead now.. i will never buy another one.. even tho they did make it right with a second battery.. the second time they said something had to be wrong with my charging system... and NO there is nothing wrong with my truck.. the new one has been fine for almost a year and still has great stats.

the duralast gold's have been great.. but the Zone didn't have the one i wanted so i got mine from advance auto, idk the brand but its a deep cycle marine/start battery... it was only like $78.99

Good to know thanks!

Yeah I recently just picked up a new battery after researching... I was going to go for an Optima but I read all over that they aren't what they used to be, I ended up getting a Diehard platinum from Sears. It was like 180$ but it has twice the CCA's and a much larger reserve capacity.

If you want a cheap one then go to costco or napa and get a legends battery.

My family runs with three different battery companys, Interstate, DieHard, and AC Delco. We use Interstate batteries for our motorcycles & Cummins. DieHards for our vehicles. And AC Delco for the boat (just because my dad just had to have only AC Delco for the boat). The DieHard's we choose is the Gold series. But I run the DieHard Platinum battery. 4yr free replacement, 120 month pro-rate, AGM techonlogy, and 930 CCA. Only bad thing that Sears told me, if I need to get a replacement, the free replacement warranty does not get renewed. But if I replace one under pro-rate, the free warranty gets renewed. Their Gold seires, any time I replaced one, the free warranty got renewed. And I got 3x free replacements this way because they would go dead by 2.5 years.

The Diehard Platinum is actually an Odyssey. With the Diehard you save $40 to $50 bucks -vs- buying the Odyssey labeled one. 8 year warranty with a 4 year free replacement.

I installed the Optima Red top on my '93 in 2002 and ran a 1000W sound system off it for the 5 years I owned the truck, then swapped it in to my caprice and ran the same sound system for 2 years before the car died.

Out of the 7 years I owned that battery, I never plugged in either of the vehicles and they both started on the FIRST try EVERY time...even in -22F weather.

I've got Optima yellow-tops on both my CJ-7 and the Ranger. The one in the Ranger was in the Mustang, but swapped them out. Never had any issues with them so far.

Agreed. Diehard Platinum hands down. It my cost a little more but with the power they have and the warranty its well worth it. I used to sell a competitors battery and would still pick a Diehard Platinum

How do you know that the battery is at fault! Did you perform a load-test?

Since the OP is interested in a battery he doesn't need to spend a ton of money on I'm not going to waste his time by recommending an optima or odyssey since those don't fit his needs. I wish more people would read entire threads, including the OP's post, instead of just reading the thread title and posting something that isn't useful to the OP. -end rant-

I've been very happy with my Everstart Max. I picked it up from Walmart for ~$75. It has 1000 CA and 850 CCA. It comes with a 3 year free replacement warranty. It's been in the truck for a little over 3 years now and cranks right up every time, even in the middle of winter when the truck hasn't been driven in several weeks. I winch with it and run lights off it. I think that CA's per dollar this battery wins hands down, and quality seems to be top notch as well.

deka makes a great cost effective unit:dunno:

i've been using an Orbital (optima knock-off) for about 4 years. it's a marine/starting battery and about 850cca's. i have absolultly NO problems with it here in northern Minnesota where the winter temps have been as cold as -30. doing a great job. will be getting another one for my dual battery setup. and only $110.
