is it just me or should my battery be able to start up my truck after it has been sitting for 3 days??!! It just turns it over once and clicks! it has a 3 year old optima red top battery in it! could it be the alternator not up to the task anymore?

My truck just sat for 12 days with the original 5 year old battery and started right up. Maybe you have a power draw you are not aware of. My wifes SUV is only a year old and the battery would die after sitting just one day, turned out to be a bad cell in the battery and had to be replaced under warranty.

Autozone or advance can check either one for free while in the truck.

it could be the battery. i have heard of alot of things like that happening with the optima batteries. personally i dont think they are as good as people think they are.

Little known fact about Optima batteries. They require a high rate of charge to actually charge them fully. Most alternators do not put out enough current to charge the battery completely...... So that combined with a possible power draw seems like it may be your problem. IMO you would be best off getting a good stock battery (like an Exide 65-72) that requires a lower charge rate and it will last you for well over the 3 years your Optima did.......... BTW I sell both Exide and Optima at work and I would prefer the Exide 72 month batteries over the Optima. :icon_thumby:

A free charging system check would not be a bad idea either.

my trucks been sitting for 6 weeks and it just started on the first try and its 15 below 0! that was surprising, i havent even heard of the brand of battery i have, it looks really cheap.

how can i figure out if it has a power draw on it? i drive short distances to work maybe the battery wasn't getting a full charge each day? :icon_confused:

an AGM battery runs about a volt above a wet cell.
13.4 to 13.6 volts.

To check for a draw, you will need a multimeter, hook it up inline between the negative cable and the negative battery terminal on the battery. You will be looking for less than a 0.05amp draw. Make sure everything is turned off and the doors are shut. If you have more than .05 amps start pulling fuses until you find which circuit is causing the draw, then investigate that circuit further.

lucky bitch mine goes dead after 2 days haha

OOOOOOO Purple Haze!! That is an awesome battery I have one since 05 that sat in my Chevy, not started for 9 months, and it started up fine. I was shocked.
