OK, i have a 92 ranger with a 2.9 . I just lifted it 7 inches, 4 inch susp. and 3 inch body, and i need to put some bigger tires on it. I want to go 33's, so i need some new wheels also for a new look. What backspacing on the wheels do i need to fit 33/12.5/15's with no rubbing???

15x8 wheels, 3.75" backspace.

OK, what is factory backspacing? I want to know the difference in whats happening.
Thanks,
Shawn

Factory is 4.5" on 7" wide wheels.

Where an RWD vehicle is concerned regardless of the wheels width ideally one wants the wheels offset to be as close to 0 on the positive side as possible.

One does this to keep the centerline of the rim centered over the front wheel bearings. Too much offset in either direction will load up the bearings unevenly.
Backspacing??

So if a wheel is 8" wide one looks for a replacement wheel that is close to 0 offest ( 4" at the centerline), if the wheel is 9" wide look for a wheel that is close to 4.5" at the centerline.

to confuse things even more: a wheels "size" is measured on the inside of the lip where the tire's bead contacts it. typically a wheel is 1" overall wider than its measured size. that means a 15 x 8 wheel is actually 9" wide overall. since backspace is measured from the hub mounting surface to the actual edge of the wheel a 15 x 8 wheel with zero offset has a backspace of 4.5"
