Just wanted to update this thread incase anyone ever was looking at old posts for similar problems. Yesterday I flashed the codes again, reset them, and flashed them again just to be sure. It was consistently putting out 998, 157, 998, 157. The 998 just means the engine is in 'limp home' mode, while the 157 is 'Mass Air Flow signal is/was low or grounded - MAF'. If you read previously, I had tried a while back to clean and then test the MAF using the instructions found on this forum: http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/CleanMAF.html. Everything checked out, including the voltage readings coming to and from the old MAF, but I was still getting the CEL and the truck was missing out sometimes and idling rough. So this morning I finally got a reman MAF sensor from Advance Auto Parts and put it on. No more CEL, and it runs better. It seems to still cycle a little at idle (with the A/C off), but I'm satisfied for now.
