Baby Safety?

Figured some, if not most of you, might have experience in this....

How safe would you say it is to transport your baby in a standard cab truck? I'm sure even you guys with the extended cab do since the seats in the back are sideways.

My wife and I are expecting our 1st child in January. She's got a 4dr sedan so transporting a baby in it is perfectly fine. Myself on the other hand....87 Standard cab Ranger. I know it's legal where I'm from but how safe is it really? My wife is OK with me keeping the truck but shes nervous about me transporting the baby at all. Not the biggest deal as most of the transporting will be in her car. I feel OK about it but I'm still kind of nervous. Even though I grew up at a time where that was totally common....

For peace of mind, how many of you would be OK with this or have done this?

I wouldn't have a problem with it if you can get the infant carrier belted in good. At least you don't have to worry about the passenger side air bag going off!

Should be. I wouldn't feel right if it wasn't. I do plan to replace the seat belt over on that side, it doesn't snap and lock. You can tug on it as fast as you want. I've got a spare laying around.

the air bags on newer models would be a big problem, imho. you should be fine as long as the baby seat is anchored in really well. different entities here, fire depts., hospitals, etc., have clinics several times a year where they help you get the right seat installed properly. best part is, it's free. congrats and good luck!

Just make sure you put the child seat in facing the rear. Kids should not face forawrd till they are about a year old. If your truck is an auto put the kid in the middle and use the adjustable belt. They also make a "latch" conversion kit to fit the new style child seats.

Make sure you drive safe when the kid is in the truck. At least you have no airbag to worry about.

You dont plan on putting the baby in the back with the 4 wheeler do you? It'll be fine, just make sure the seat belt works right.
