My 89 Bronco 2 is a totally stock daily driver. Would it help to change from 3.45 gears to 4.10 gears to pull a small utility trailer? I have to downshift a lot going up long hills. Any help would be appreciated.

Yes it would, but expect a hit on your fuel economy and top speed (not that you want to go mega fast in a BII anyway.:icon_surprised: )

It would definitely help for sure. 4.10 might be a bit much if you still have the little 205/75R15 tires, though if you bumped up to a 225/75R15 (which should fit fine) it would probably be right about perfect for that use.

With the 225s there shouldn't be much, if any hit to your MPG (infact, it could even go up, depending on your driving habits).

Thanks for the info, guys. I appreciate it. I did not even think about the tires. They are LT215/75R15's, so it isn't totally stock after all. My driving habits are very conservative.

You may still see and MPG bump with 4.10s. The 2.9 hits peak MPG around 2600 RPM.

I've got 3.73's and 235/75-15 tires, that is a really good balance in the drive train.

My b2 had 3:40s with 235s. It sucks bad....

Hey, f6boomer, I will be in Lake Dallas in a couple of weeks. Any suggestions about where I can buy parts locally over the counter. I have looked at 4wheel parts, and rockauto and they both have pretty good prices. I live in a rural area of Montana and the local prices can't touch the internet prices.

I just pulled the 7.5 that was in my 88 as I got an 8.8. You want to get it I will about give it to you, (like 40 bucks) only problem is I never shipped a part like that? Im sure its easy enough, but my ratio is 410 w ls and it worked great. Let me know, I live in Tacoma WA if that helps you figure shipping.
