I the process of swapping a wheel joint in my ranger, I am now missing a slinger. This happened because instead of swapping the joint on the shaft that was already in the truck, I pulled another shaft from my parts explorer and swapped a new joint in there to reduce the time my truck was down. The problem is, I didn't notice that shaft didn't have a slinger on it until I put everything back together and the front end was making noise.

Now my Haynes manual says I can just tap the slinger off with a hammer. I tried using a rubber mallet and just ended up bending it a little bit. Is there another way to get this thing off with out bending it beyond using?

You speaking of the part on the stub axle that holds the outer spindle seal?
It is just pressed on the shaft. Maybe take an old junky chisel and try tapping it off with that. It should come right off.

Yeah, that part. I figured that was what I would have to do, I just wanted to make sure I didn't damage it since I don't have a spare
