axle?

Is your truck a Supercab or Reg cab? Maybe that's why it has a 7.5"? (I was also under the impression all '98+ 3.0L 4x4s had the 8.8", unless maybe it's just Supercab trucks)

As was said though, the 7.5" should be fine with 33s (with 35s I'd for sure suggest swapping in the 31-spl 8.8")

I got a supercab, so i assumed i had an 8.8 too!! Also i notice whenever the rear end is up sometimes one axle shaft will engage the driveshaft, while the other one won't. then the other side will start engaging the driveshaft, and they'll just switch off. I noticed yesterday when i jacked it up to adjust the brakes when i rotated one tire forward, it would rotate the other tire backward. according to my door tag i don't have limited slip, but considering both axleshafts will engage the driveshaft (at seperate times however) it seems like i do have limited slip?? and the tag on the differential says this:

6368S
73 75 8M15..

i don't see how to identify that.. and i feel like my door tag is lying
This truck is confusing!

That full number is 373 (the gear ratio, fist three hidden under the bolt) and 75 tells you the rear end size.

Okay so just to be clear a 7.5 with 3.73 can 33x12.5? What about the front diff? It's a Dana 35 of course, can it handle those tires are should I just do 32x11.5?

7.5" should be fine with 33s.
3.73:1 gears aren't the greatest though (ok, with a 3.0L, they will suck big time). 4.88 gears would be better, though here is where the 7.5" bites you, they aren't made for it. You'll need to swap it for an 8.8" to use 4.88 gears (you could run 4.56 though, which is next closest that'll fit both axles).

As for the IFS D35, 33s are fine there as well, just keep your wheel offset within reason so you don't go through wheel bearings all the time.

Will I have to replace both axle gears? Won't the t case bind up if I only replace the rear and not the front?

Yes, both front and rear axles need to be geared the same.
