axle pivot point bushing- I'm stuck

got the one mounted on the driver's side (controls psgr side tire) installed just fine, however, the one mounting on the passenger side is almost in. I can't get that last bit, about 1/4" maybe a bit less. I ran a bolt through with a big washer to keep from hitting the bushing and pounded with a 3 lb sledge, but it won't go. anyone have any tricks here? maybe a ball joint press? like this one?

the axle shaft is fairly close behind it so there's not much room in there.

Apply lots of grease around the bushing and into the hole where the bushing goes in; use a long enough screw with a couple of washers on each end and tighten it until it pops on the other side. the rest will be handled by the pressure you will put when mounting the arm back into the truck.

At least that's what worked for me... used the same technique when replacing leaf spring bushings, btw....

soke the bushings in hot water for about ten minutes, then put greas on them and thats all. the hot water helps alot. i do it every time i change bushings and never had a prob. good luck.

thanks guys. I tried and was able to get a bit further. the metal sleeve now goes all the way through the arm but is still out about 1/8". It'll have to do for now. I think I'll try those suggestions again in combination with a ball joint press this weekend and just be nice with her till then. Thanks.

Try this; put the bushing in the freezer. Cold contracts material. Heat the TTB arm pivot with a torch. Heat expands metal. This should give you the little bit of clearance you need. I've had good luck installing bearings this way but have never tried it on those pivots.
