So I'd like to know what the manual computer will do when in a automatic truck? I just realized i had a manual in my auto ranger changed it with one I had layin around and it runs ten times better!

Manual computer will have a lower idle and will not control things like the torque converter lock up and shift points. It'll still drive, but not as smoothly.

An auto computer in a manual trans truck will have a higher idle and it may throw a check engine light because it cannot "see" the transmission, but otherwise it'll be ok.

Mine is a 1986 so it dont have a torque converter lockup switch. And the problems I came up with was it would idle high if you took off cold and stopped until you put it into neutral. Also the idle was absolutely horrible.

It will do what you've described. Was there something further you were looking for like if it caused damage?

I'm sure the timing curve is different between the manual and auto as well. On the 5.0 Mustang computers I know Ford advanced the timing quicker on the automatic computers.
