Anyone out there running the 4.5" lift coils? Seems all the pictures I've seen are guys using 6.5" lift coils. I have a free hook-up on 4.5" coils for my SAS but am debating whether or not that will be enough for me. I'm going to run like a 33" tire so I think it can work, but I haven't seen many examples in picture.

When I put jx 6.5 on my truck, it gave me 5 inches of lift in the front and thats on a reg cab truck with a 2.8.

Now you want the lift or your going to have your pumpkin smack your engine crossmember unless you do some trimming to that.

Im running 32 inch tires and they would make contact with my front finder until I trimmed of that part.

thought ben (escort_gts) was running 4.5in coils.. could be wrong though

Nope the first page of his build thread says what hes using.....

Rough Country 6.5" XJ coils springs

Depends how you mount them these are 3" XJ coils with ACOS on them (lowest setting)

Yes 6.5 RC. They gave me about 4-4.5" of lift.

It also depends on the spring rate.

I also used a 1" spacer with the factory coil buckets.

I believe the coils I could get are Rough Country as well. I've found a place locally that machines aluminum spacers and considered that as an option. But then I reflect upon that look at the cost of those (>$60) on top of the Free coils and think for probably another $20 I could probably wait it out and find xj coils for close to the same price on CL or something.

Too bad it's kind of an apples and oranges comparison: Gen1 vs Gen2, 2.8L V6 vs 2.3L I4...but I comprehend what you're saying, or so I think.

To clarify, are you saying that virtually anything under the 6.5" coils would in your scenario cause the pumpkin to easily hit the engine cross member?

You need at least 4 inches of lift to keep the pumpkin from smaking the crossmember.

Now with a D44, if you dont go high enough then you may have to cut the crossmember no matter what or when you flex they will make contact unless you put in bumpstops. With my D30 I dont think I could compress the front enough for the diff to hit the crossmember and I still have the factory TTB bracket on it too and they have yet to make contact.

Now what I do know is factory f150 coils (as a height example) would not give enough lift to allow the passenger side top mount on a Dana 30 to clear the cross member, it would be up inside of it.

My coils free of weight were 22inches tall and came from rusty's offroad and have a 180lbs spring rate and gave 5 inches of lift.

Also forgot to ask, what axle do you plan on using for your SAS and waht are you going to use your truck for?

As far as the diff hitting the crossmember, if it was 4wd then you should have enough room. If it was 2wd, then you will have to cut out some of the crossmember to clear it.
Mine was 2wd and I only have about 4" of lift and had to cut out a lot. If it was already 4wd then I wouldn't have to cut any.

Yea it's a 2wd to 4wd conversion project here too. I'm rocking a D30, same source I got my axle from has the springs. It's sounding like the springs won't quite do the trick I want them to. Though now I'm debating taking delivery on them anyway and selling them...but I'm too honest probably to do that.

BTW I just made it to page 16 on your build thread, and that probably has the best photo that shows engine crossmember trimming, but it's still not that great. Do you have a pic that represents how much I should anticipate removing from the 2wd engine cross-member?

I just cut out enough for it to clear.

werd. Going to look at a BW1350 tonight. If I get it I'll probably upload some pics tonight.

Hopefully it will have the fixed front yoke. If not, I wouldn't bother getting it.
