But the cam is not HO....I think I'm gonna swap in a good used HO cam I have in an engine that needs rebuilt thats sitting on my back shelf in the shop, I plan to swap the roller lifters over as well, or do you think the lifters in the (new) engine will work?? I know the cam wears a certain way to each lifter and that the lifter that comes out needs to go back in the same hole, but does that also apply to roller lifters??

Will the A9L computer run a 154 motor?? The ECU was not with the car when I got the motor, but don't have the ECU. I plan to use the painless standalone EFI harness which has the A9L computer...

I'm sure it will run, but not optimal.

The HO ECU(s) fire the injectors sequentially... But a carb works, so I'm sure the fuel where get where it's going eventually!

This doesn't apply to roller cams. The roller sits squarely on the lobe unlike a flat tappet cam where the lobe has a slight cant that spins the lifter in it's bore. You can mix and match with roller lifters.

Maybe. A9L is a very good and popular ECU. Maybe as long as the cam is the HO firing order, it should work?

to run the apl or any HO ecu you'll need to swap over to an HO or equivalent camshaft. these use the 137 firing order. only way to use the a9l with the non-ho 154 cam is to swap around the injector harness which is a pain in the butt. HO cams are cheap, even ford letter cams are around $100 used.

yeah, just swap in a used HO cam. you can mix/match lifters between the two, they are the same...no difference in lifter height, etc. Wear patterns dont mean much with roller lifters either.



on thing to check is if the lincoln engine has yellow top fuel injectors. some of the non-ho engines used white top 14lb injectors and you'll need 19-lb/hr injectors for the a9l ecu. also, think about trying to get an upper/lower off at least a t-bird/cougar/mark VII HO engine as it has larger intake runner holes compared to the lincoln runners. swap in the cam along with the injectors/ecu and the intake manifold and you've got yourself a mustang engine sans forged pistons (only in some years anyway) as they came with e6 heads factory.

cheap u-pull junkyard upgrade is to use the intake manifolds and heads off a v8 explorer/mountie as they were gt40/gt40p. at the very least the intake is a good upgrade for cheap.

My time was limited as PAP is 1.5 hours away from me, and after 2 trips and 1 motor later, I wish I had the time to postpone pulling the motor...I spent most of the day in the yard "building" what I thought was the better combo of what was available, but turns out I should have got the E series motor (E7 heads VS E6SE) and bolted on the Tbird intake and FEAD....I have an HO motor in the back of the shop that needs rebuilt, so I'll be robbing the cam, the intake (upper and lower), injectors, and everything else that goes on the intake, since the lincoln motor has the 14 lb injectors...I wish I could have located an explorer motor, as the FEAD is tighter...I found a link to some jeep guys who have done the 5.0L swap into TJ's, and its REAL tight using the SN95 motor...

I don't see why, as the SN95 motor's FEAD is nearly the same as the Explorer motor. They share the same timing cover.

I guess thats one of those reasons why I drive a Blue Oval Ford, and all the Jeep guys are installing one in theirs
