Are Those Stupid Jumper Seats Necessary for NYS Inspection?

The early 90's are styled the same as the 3rd gen so it may be possible to use the same hinges and attach the panels to them so no extra holes are required if you so choose to reinstall the jump seats.

Other than my jump seat bottoms being covered with rug they look the same.

@1990RangerinSK: First off, I wish my interior was half that nice!

In the first picture, with the jump seat open, what do you see back in there if you fold down the back of the seat (so that you’re looking down into the pocket that the seat disappears into when you close it). I have a device in there that looks a bit like a stereo amp with tons of wires running to it. I thought it might be the computer, but I know that the ECA is actually under the passenger’s side kick plate in my truck. I’ll try to take a picture of what I’m referring to tomorrow...

Any chance it IS a stereo amp? Never had a truck with factory premium sound but the amp if there was one would logically be located somewhere near the rear speakers and have wires running up to them...

I thought that at first, but no wires run directly from the item up to the speaker right above it (though I suppose that they could join up somewhere under the dash or something). You can actually just sort of see the bottom of it (with wires running to it) in these pic that I took for other reasons. I’ll try to get a better one.

Is the truck 4wd? If so, that could be the 4x4 controller.

Yeah, it’s 4wd with auto hubs. There’s a 4x4 controller? This is my first non-manual 4x4, so I assumed that the only mechanism involved was the little motor that’s attached to the transfer case...

Well, right now, darkness. I'll go out tomorrow morning and have a look, and grab you a picture or two. I'm assuming you want the left side.

On the right side is the jack and tire wrench, stowed in the bottom of the well.

No need, 1990RangerinSK. Saskbill nailed it. And I learned that push-button 4wd is even more annoying that previously thought.

Thanks a lot, guys. :icon_thumby::beer:

The forums and tech section are a wonderful combination (and the TRS page that puts them together and keeps 'em going).

Thanks to all those that participate, and those that take the time to document stuff, and to those that know and share the names/purpose of stuff to point the way!

Kinda like being in one big garage together...

A heartfelt “cheers!” to that, brother.:icon_thumby:

That would be your body control module. RonD can you verify please?

I know you said you'd figured it out, but for reference, I thought I'd post these, just the same. As the first picture shows, on a 1990 2WD, there is nothing there, EXCEPT the optional feature pictured in the second picture.

This picture is the bottom of the well. As you can see, in 1990, Rangers came equipped with an optional brush, with the handle matched to the interior colour, stowed in the bottom of the left jump seat.

No, pretty sure I found that elsewhere. It’s located under the kick panel on the passenger’s side, almost touching the floor pan. Just about the worst place possible, since my truck is rotted right through there and I can now see that water has been splashing on it for years. Way to go, Ford! :icon_thumby::icon_confused:

Haaaaaaaahahaaaa!!! I’ve had a few of those kicking around in different trucks of mine. Never new that I was getting so many freebie factory options!! :icon_rofl:
