Are the 351w and the 302 the same size?

Me and my dad are planning to rebuild his 76 bronco with a302 right now but I got a friend with a 351w and I was wonderin if the blocks are the same physical size or not? The 302 got a busted crank so we need a whole new block and my friends has got the full 351w shortblock. Thanks for feedback.

Similar but no. The 351 is a couple inches wider. It has a diverent angle on the pistons. In a full size bronco there is plenty of room for the 351. That is the way to go.

76 bronco is an eb...but should fit nicly...the 302 trans will bolt up the 351

ive been told before about guys puuting 302 heads on the 351 or the other way around it was long ago
if you have the 302 head gaskets lying around compare them on the 351 block
couldnt hurt to compare could it

302 and 351 along with the 289 are all in the same engine fam. the 289 and the 302 are almost identical. the 351 has a taller deck height and can cause fitment issues. But also there are three different 351 blocks. the Windsor, the cleveland and the M. i have always called it the moddified but i know thats not the correct name.

The head bolts are bigger on a 351w so the 302 heads would need to be drilled or the block would need inserts to use the 302 heads. 351w heads on a 302 are a bolt on. the cleveland and modified(midland) motors are completely different. The Cleveland has the same bellhousing pattern as the 302 and the modified has the 429/460 bell housing pattern.

I haven't heard of swapping heads between a 302 and a 351...

I HAVE heard of swapping heads between International smallblocks, ie 345 heads on a 392 for higher comp and to deal with cooling issues. But that doesn't help you any.

Or you can put Cleveland heads on a W (IIRC-if not then the other way around), and make a Clevor.

A BOSS 302 uses 351 heads with a 302 block also.
