I need a 2wd manual tranny from a 4.0 ranger. Is the bell housing bolt pattern the same on all of the M50Dr1 trannies?

Thanks!

No, they aren't, the 3.0L & 2.3L have different bolt patterns.
The 2.9L is the same except for the two bottom positions.

Thanks! I am swapping a Taurus SHO motor into a Mazda Miata. I know that the 4.0 trans fits but I figured it must match some others. This should be a big time saver. Hmmmmmmmm now who has a 2wd tranny for sale?

Actually the 2.9 has the same two bolt holes at the bottom of the bellhousing, there;'s just nothing to bolt them to on a 2.9 engine.

any M5Od-R1 with a TWO bolt starter on the drivers side of the bellhousing will bolt up to a 4.0 or 2.9

Ford decided at the last minute to pull the plug on a cast aluminum
oil pan for the 2.9 because the 4.0 was in developement.

Great info! I am looking to be fully armed when I hit the junk yards!

Thanks!

That is a definite possibility on the 91 & 92 bellhousings, but with the three 2.9's that I've owned (all older than 91) none had the bottom bolt holes that the 4.0L uses to bolt to the pan.

ALL mazda cases have the two bottom holes.

and we are talking about the MAZDA transmission here...
Or atleast I am...

Atleast all the 11 or twelve E8 mazda cases that have passed
through my hands have all had them

I have yet to see a Mitsubishi bellhousing with the holes.
