Anyone use a Fram Airhog filter

But then it is usually easier to glue cardboard to carboard that cardboard to steel so which would actually stay better? I don't use Fram but I really wonder what the failure rate is.

I used to use Wix, my local Wally World started stocking Motorcraft stuff and i have been using that. The price is comparable and it is what they specify, so I figured I might as well.

I have seen more than one Fram air filter not fit the air box properly thus letting the dirty air past. Just not Fram, any of the cheaper brands.

the fact that you have to check the fitment on something that is supposed to be made for your specific application should be a clue. ive never had a wix or motorcraft filter that didnt just "fit". no checking involved.

ive been in the service buisness for close to 5 years now...ive seen a lot of different brands come through, and fram (along with other cheaper brands) are the only ones that are consistantly a problem.

for the record, ive seen the guts come loose on motorcraft oil filters too. but the sheer numbers of defunct frams is overwhelming.

My shop changes oil in cars everyday sometimes as many as 15. I have never seen a fram filter fail. I am the heavy mechanic, I change engines when they fail. I have never seen an engine failure due to a fram filter. I have seen many fail due to neglect.

Hello to all of you. I am new to this forum, but have been a Ranger owner for ten years.

In regards to Fram filters in general. They are made in the U.S. The company is owned by Honeywell. ( Formally Allied Signal). Honeywell is very six sigma oriented in regards to quality, and production processes. I would put a Fram oil filter up against anything made. They are good filters. They make millions of these filters, so if some of you did get a bad one, that is bound to happen once in a while.

I bought my 97 Ranger brand new. I have 115,000 miles on the 4.0. I use Fram oil, and air filters on the stock engine. No problems to date.

Really. Is that why the fram fuel filter I just put into my explorer has MADE IN CHINA on it or is that only the fram filters sold a Wal Mart?

Napa or Carquest filters. Napa = Wix anyway.

I've blown apart 5 fram oil filters on cold engine start up. After seeing the inside of them compared to others. No. fuckin. way. Wix oil filters for what I care about, motorcraft for everything else.

Many people use Frams for many years, no problem. Other people have had problems.
If you cut one open and compare it to a Motorcraft or whatever, you will see that the other filter is better.
Simple fact is that there are better filters available for the same money.
Also do not buy the Autolite filters at Wal-Mart, they are just relabled Frams.
I mostly use Motorcraft, occasionally NAPA Gold if I happen by the NAPA store near oil change time. NAPA used to be within walking distance of my house but they closed and moved 7 miles away.

Thanks everybody, I actually picked one up for the cost of a standard air filter before posting the question. then got to wondering why they were clearanced when they only came out maybe 9 months ago. I was mostly concerned with it maybe letting dirt in, or falling apart, maybe you have heard of a recall or something?

It's just some people have had problems with fram. Take me for instance. Every Ford I buy seems to be junk, and I baby the hell outta my vehicles. I've always had problems with Ford (I'll never buy another Ford I can tell you that). My buddy has never had problems with Ford, but he has with Chevy. I've never had a problem with any Chevy I've owned. So, go figure. Now I have seen the different filter elements between Fram and Amsoil, Mobil 1, Etc. and Fram was pretty weak. But that's just my opinion. As for Air filters, I would either go with an AEM Brute Force or a good Napa filter. (depending on driving conditions of course) Good luck.
