Anyone use a Fram Airhog filter

I noticed alot of stores are clearancing them, something wrong with them? Do they improve anything? Its for my 93's 3.0.

fram filters are 100% junk. the gasket on the air filters rips, allowing unfiltered air past. ive also seen more then one frame air filter partially ingested into the engine (collapsed).

the oil filters are no better. the bypass valve is weak and they often run in bypass mode. often times the internals actually break loose and rattle around inside the casing.

Yeah, I had the internals on a Fram oil filter come loose...it wasn't pretty.

I looked at them once, I think it's like a K&N only cheaper. And I think from a performance standpoint a K&N is a waste of money since our engines don't flow enough air for it to matter. It's only an advantage if you off-road a lot and then you can clean the filter instead of buying new ones often.

ya at the autoparts stor i work at we opened up a fram oil filter and opened up a wix oil filter and it was night and day difference in construction and materials the fram had only about half the filtering material as did the wix

of course the wix is better then the fram the wix is dessinged to last for a long time wear as the fram is dessinged for 3000 miles. thats is like saying that a ford 350 has more power then a ford ranger of course it does

my dad and i have been using fram oil and air filters for years and have never hade a proplem with then you just have to change them every so often

Hello to all of you. I am new to this forum, but have been a Ranger owner for ten years.

In regards to Fram filters in general. They are made in the U.S. The company is owned by Honeywell. ( Formally Allied Signal). Honeywell is very six sigma oriented in regards to quality, and production processes. I would put a Fram oil filter up against anything made. They are good filters. They make millions of these filters, so if some of you did get a bad one, that is bound to happen once in a while.

I bought my 97 Ranger brand new. I have 115,000 miles on the 4.0. I use Fram oil, and air filters on the stock engine. No problems to date.

If you believe that "Six Sigma" bullcrap, "once in a while" is supposed to be so ridiculously rare as to be effectively impossible. With production of millions per year, the number of defects should be in the dozens.

Of course, it's bullcrap, so you really do get more failures. A lot more.

Lots of companies are into Six Sigma. Some of them get there by defining away what a "defect" is.

In the case at hand, you have acceptable defects if the product matches its design to bettern than a few discrepancies per million. If the design itself is a POS, that's not relevant.

used fram filters fo 34 years,i got no complaints.nuff said.

A few years ago fram was cutting back and they made some really bad products. When they got bought by honeywell they fixed all the problems. I haven't seen a problem with fram in years. I will also continue to use their products.
I wouldn't waste the money on an Air hog for your 3.0 Ranger though. It won't do anything.

wix is the only way to go!! more money but id rather pay more for a filter then have to buy a new motor!!

kinda off topic but im sure you have all seen this and this, right? its old info from when fram was owned by Allied Signal so i dont know of its relevance now but i still wont buy anythgn that says fram. as far as any 'performance' air filter, the only thing i have seen it do was make my dads' t-bird ping unless he used premium (was a k&n though)

Best thing about Fram, is that they make a wide range of products to fit almost any vehicle. But the construstion is some what cheap. Filter element glued to carboard doesn't cut it when 190*F oil at 60psi is pushing on that filter element. Every other oil filter maker use stamped steel ends clued on the filter element. But the air filter are good, just check the fitment.
