Anyone switch to 0W oil?

Oil is okay, just don't put fuel in a Pinto!

That is a steaming pile of fresh horse shit. I drove a wrecker from 72- 82 and never picked up a burned car, Pinto or otherwise. I'd bet more Teslas have burned up "for no reason" than Pintos in accidents.

I don’t think it will hurt anything. I went the route of an oil pan heater and a block heater to prevent any oil flow problems when it’s really cold and speed up the warm up process.

In any case, give a whirl and see of it works how you want.

I have a Zero start oil pan heater and a battery warmer, If I KNOW I'm gonna use the truck and REMEMBER I plug them both into a timer that turns them on an hour before I plan to leave. The problem is the remembering part, or I procrastinate and leave 3 hours after I planned to so the timer for the heaters has long since turned off and let the oil turn to ice again. :icon_rofl:

When it's really cold I also try to prime the oil pump a little by turning the engine over with the gas pedal to the floor. Dunno how much that helps but it makes me feel better lol.

+1 on gas pedal to the floor, crank it a few times that way, makes my high mile 4.0l sound like a tight motor on start up, lol, and takes the cold start lifter ticks away

I was kinda always half and half on this... the motor is still spinning albeit much slower so wear still occurs during cranking that way, and it's putting stress on the battery. But on the other hand if it gets oil to the top end before starting it should help the valvetrain which if you've ever driven a 2.3 duratec you know is a noisy clanky bastard.

a lot easier to change a battery then rebuild a motor.

You sir are correct. But rangers got tiny @$&$&÷&÷ batteries and I'm tired of replacing it. One day I'll build a bigger battery tray... one day...

I'm about due for a new battery. Last I changed it was in December of '16 Not bad for a battery that came with a 3 year warranty. Voltage is getting a bit low (12.3) and I'd rather not monkey with it in the middle of winter. I'm thinking AGM for the next one. My wallet may say differently when I get to doing the swap.

Actually, cranking it a bit with the gas pedal to the floor when its really cold helps the battery. When the battery is very cold, it has less cranking capacity. When you spin the motor over a bit and then give it a rest, it allows the battery to warm up a bit due to the use, so when you crank the engine for real its got a little more capacity.

Pfft. If you think that battery is small for the 2.3... our 6.0 chevy box trucks at work all have the same size battery. Always going dead lol.
