anyone in the armed forces?

Knowing about her and having the paperwork filed (and you having documentation to prove that it's been done) aren't the same, though. What is WOFT? Not an acronym I'm familiar with. Either way, just make sure all the i's are dotted and the t's are crossed.
Yea, we are getting married 21March, so before I sign on the line I will make sure her paper work is filled as a dependent. I don't plan on joining till mid April.

WOFT is Warrant Officer Flight Training. I have to go through all kinds of crap to get approved. I have to take the AFAST test next week, then MEPS physical, then a Class 1A flight physical, then if that all goes well I have to go before a review board.

Oh, ok. I didn't realize that you weren't actually married yet. Have fun with the warrant officer program. It sounds like an awesome deal. If I weren't already a marine reservist I'd probably look into it a little further.

Yea we are not married yet. We moved the wedding up from 1 August to 21 March so I could go in the Army.

I am pumped about WOFT. I have always wanted to fly. Even if I can't get into the WOFT program, I will go as an MP.

i have been in the navy a little over 8 years now. its not bad just alot of bullshit. if you can make it through the daily spray of every little thing being blown out of perportion and just get your work done its not real bad just a good bit of stress. the marines are good people as well. very tight knit family just watch what you do as far as jobs. dont get stuck doing something you hate or you enlistment will be long and youll grow bitter. dont have much experience with army or air force but i am sure they have the same base principles. just keep your head down in basic and dont get your name put out alot and youll be just fine.

Never trust the recruiter. He will exagerate or straight out lie to get you into boot. After that, you are not his problem. Double check everything he says and does.

Once you swear in, you are active with all the benefits. You do not have to graduate boot. However, if you get tossed out in boot, you have to pay back what you didn't earn.

Speaking of boot and pay, your uniforms are not free. You will have to pay for all of that out of your pay in boot, so expect those pay checks to not exist. When I went through in '98 I think my paycheck was $50 every two weeks for the 2 months of boot.

You are his problem because you get removed from his quota if you are booted.

I think it depends on the service how much the recruiters lie. In the marines, they have never drafted, although they have accepted drafted people that were first drafted into other services. I never met anyone while I was in that joined to get money for college. You join something else to get money for college. You don't join the marines and then bitch and whine because its to tough and you thought you were going to be arranging flowers. My recruiter didn't lie to me. He told me it really sucked and I probably wouldnt make it but he would sign me up if I insisted on joining. That's the part that sold me. Thats what they advertise.

It's worse now for recruits than ever. I went to bootcamp 22 years ago. There was nothing going on. We had one Beruit vet out of the 5 drill instructors in my platoon. Guess how many Iraq/Afganistan vets you will have in your drill instructo team if you enlist now? All! They know what you need to have to survive and I hope they beat it into you. When I was in bootcamp they said "If it doesn't kill you, it will make you stronger." Now I think their motto is "Better to die here than somewhere where it will take three other guys and a medivac stick to get you out."

I forget that the services are different on that. In at least one of them, all you have to do is ship out for the quota to be met.

I talked to a few of the DI's when I was stationed at MCRD. Things are different now.

as of 04 when i wwent to boot. you still pay for all your stuff and its about half of your first months pay. but your going warrent. soo idk.

When I go to boot I will still only be an E-3. I wont get my WO1 until I graduate from WOCS.

This was pretty funny!

An O1 I was stationed with in '99 liked to draw cartoons. I don't think I have them anymore, but one of them was a picture of the ship I was on at the time with little bubbles all over the place saying thins like:
"Working bouys sucks"
"4-8's suck"
"This weather sucks"
And from the far back, in Officer Country was "Hmmm, chicken" :D

Another that I remember was from after he found out that he got sea sick. It was a picture of the ship looking at the back with a guy standing there puking off the back over the letter "S" in the ships name (Sedge WLB-402). On the bridge talking over the radio it said "Captain, why do they keep calling us 'the cutter edge'?" :icon_rofl:
