Anyone here ever filed a duplicate title claim?

I might have to put one in soon. I've been trying to contact the PO of my jeep but no luck. The DMV said to give them a call and they will send me all the paper work and I can file a claim for ownership. I'm just wondering how long that will take?

If no one else has done this no worries. I'm doing it either way.

If NY State is somewhat like NH, it'll probably take 3-4 weeks to get a new title after you've gotten the paperwork done.

In Idaho, an abandoned vehicle claim (duplicate title) gives the previous owner 30 days to reclaim property. Don't fix anything until you have the title in your name, or the prev owner may be able to reclaim the rig with all improvements / repairs out of your pocket.

In order to claim it he would have to have it towed well over 200 miles.

I don't plan on starting work on it until I have the title anyway.

i would count on nys dmv to take a bare minimum of a month and a half. thats about how long it took to get every one of my titles in the mail.
