Post some pics and info if you swapped the factory motor out for something different. I wonna do either a 5.0 or a 4bt but the 4bt is more of a dream goal idk if I will actually do it but I wonna see some options.

I would direct you to these places, many build threads here on the forum:

V8 Swaps

Other Engine Swaps

A lot of offroad type custom work done here:

Street trucks:

If it possibly can be done (and a few impossible), it’s probably been done by someone on here at some point, lol. I’m on 5.0 swap #2 and I also went from 2.9 to 4.0 in my one Bronco II

Pretty sure there's a thread around here about a truck someone put a cat diesel equipment motor in.. John deere motor mabey? Idk.. equipment motor none the less.

bobbywalter for the diesel swap... that rig is a beast.

but yeah, there have been quite a few non standard Ranger engine swaps. Another user who hasn't been on here in a while would be AllanD.

PetroleumJunkie412 has done some cool stuff with the 2.9 and computer/ engine management.

I've done the V8 thing...

Windsor or Cleveland also since both you guys have carborated v8s in a pretty light truck is it still reasonable as a daily like fuel wise? Cause I thought about doing a v8 but something fuel injected.

IIRC, the 99-00 Rangers with a v-6 are arguably the easiest to do fuel injected 5.0 swaps, the automatics being the easiest. If you can find the right donor (99-01 Explorers). We did it with dad’s 00 Ranger and a 99 Explorer donor, largely plug and play. We left it auto and AWD. Biggest issues were exhaust (we used everything from the cats forward and had a custom exhaust shop do the rest), one motor mount (drivers side, we marked and drilled the plate on the motor), and splicing about 5 wires (mostly climate control). If we kept our foot out of it, it was doing 17/18 around town, 15 if you were heavy on the skinny pedal.

I am currently working on doing it to one of my trucks, just advanced a few steps with headers and whatnot. Also going to use 3.73 gears on 31’s instead of 4.10 with 30’s and give it a tune. Throw in a few other goodies and I’m hoping for some respectable mileage and a lot of fun.

Interestingly enough, my 4.0 powered Bronco II on 35’s is actually rather respectable. Well, when it’s run anyway. That truck seems to like eating motors. But at any rate, it has headers and a bit of a port job on the heads and despite 4.10’s, 35’s and a packed limited slip rear, it will light both back tires in first if encouraged and chirp second. A supercharger and some other mods could probably do wonders for any v-6

I swapped a white bed side on where the broken black one was, among other things. Of course, now the white one is broke and so is the black one on the other side.

Why did you have to drill the motor mount plate?

I averaged 16 all last summer and haven't bothered to check it this year. I left the stock 95 F150 cam in it(for now), swapped in slightly better pistons when I rebuilt it, and used the 66 Galaxie 289 exhaust manifolds you see. The C4 came out of a six cylinder 81 Cougar that I put a 302 and T5 in with forward and reverse high drums out of a Mustang because they each use an additional clutch plate and the 8 inch rear has 3.00 gears and a Yukon limited slip.

16-17mpg pretty regular with a high rise topper and a spare tire hanging off the back loaded pretty heavy for TRS events (the only real time it gets serious highway miles)

Its kinda fun to let run out around town, mileage isn't spectacular but not horrible.

I do plan on converting to EFI at some point for better performance offroad/cold weather and maybe a few more mpgs.

My engine is far from fresh too.

I've put like 50k miles on a 5.0L explorer, that dumb thing is 5k pounds and gets 16-18mpg commuting... using it for hunting it goes down to 10mpg or towing the 3500lb boat (including trailer) it goes down to 12ish... not bad for a rig with 250k of HARD miles on it (judging by the fact every piece in the transmission was trashed, and the receiver hitch is bent down a little... not to mention the rear spider gears were stripped out when I got it). I have a '67 Mustang with a 289 I'd like to put the mountaineer 5.0L and 4R70W in that I have in the back at some point... I think the mileage would be good on that short light car... just gotta find a 2WD 4R70 to use for parts...

As for swaps in my world, my '90 has had everything but the dash swapped... Chassis swapped with a 4x4, turbo engine out of a thunderbird (using a bunch of Ranger stuff on it like DIS and accessories), Explorer axles front and rear, 1354 transfer case, explorer grille, bucket seats, Tempo map light, home brew traction bar... The '00 Explorer has a 4406 transfer case out of an F150 and drivelines out of two different Expeditions so it has true 4x4...
