I heard today that Ford is going to offer the manual transmission only in the Mustang sometime in the future. I was curious if this was true?

I doubt it's true. There will always be a signifigent portion of the public who want a slushbox 'Stang. Besides, sadly, autos have been outselling sticks in the past few years.

I think he means that the Mustang will be the only Ford with a manual.

I can believe that. Many people are too lazy/unwilling to learn to drive stick. Also, the profit margin on autos is much higher since people are willing to pay more for them and they are cheaper to make than manuals, so from a business standpoint (unless you are Chrysler) limiting the number of cars that come with an available manual transmission makes more sense.

I think manufacturers like autos on cars because the computer controls the tranny making it easier to comply to smog limitations and drive train loads and shock.

Well, yeah, there is always that too.

Autos are the biggest waste ever in IMO. Suck your power, guaranteed to need a rebuild at some point that will cost you 1-2k....and you cant jumpstart :(

wait so if your auto tranny blew out on you and you needed a rebuild, do you think it would be cheaper to purchase a manual transmission and have them install that for you if you want a stick? or would the best bet be to just get another automatic?

I don't think they will do that... but it does seem like they are trying to phase them out. Notice now how anything equipped with a manual now days has a few miles per gallon less on the rating then the automatics? It used to be the other way round, although I think its mostly cause people can't drive manuals properly to get better MPG's. Same thing with towing, Autos have more towing capacity then a manual now... mostly due to people not being able to properly use a manual for towing...

I think I am going to buy an automatic car for city driving but I loe having my stick shift truck...

LOL

if they do that. thats just another reason for not selling my 5 spd truck :)
