Anybody with some chemistry know how?

How the Hell has this post gotten that kind of response so quickly?!

Damn, I love TRS.

Oh, and chemistry left me for dead at the Periodic Table. You'll find me next to Carbon...

Big word of caution....dangerous...do not touch the liquid or spill it anywhere.

Some luminol (crimescene stuff...makes bloodstains glow). 3 percent hydrogen peroxide, two big mixing bowls, distilled water, sodium carbonate, and copper sulfate pentahydrate. The hydrogen peroxide can be found at Walgreens and the others on the Web or in your case you stole it...lol.

First bowl: put in one liter of water, add to it the hydrogen peroxide. You are just diluting the peroxide. In another bowl, use the rest of the water and 4 grams of sodium carbonate, which will cause the other chemicals to mix together better.

Now, add to the sodium carbonate mixture 0.4 grams of copper sulfate pentahydrate. This is what causes the luminol to glow. As far as I remember.... Luminol can only dissolve in highly alkaline solutions—11.8 pH.

And now we carefully add 0.2 grams of luminol to the sodium carbonate/copper solution. And here we are with a fully prepped solution, just waiting to glow.

Now for the the diluted hydrogen peroxide can be added to the luminol solution. The hydrogen peroxide replaces two of luminol’s nitrogen atoms with oxygen, which the glow in our glowstick!

See what happens and enjoy the glow stik...or do what I do....GO OUT AND BUY SOME!!!!!!! lol

As a Note you don't need to say "Copper Sulfate Pentahydrate"

"Pentahydrate" is generally assumed if you don't specifically say "Anhydrous Copper Sulfate"

Pentahydrate is the "normal" form of Copper Sulfate (the pretty blue crystals)
The anhydrous form looks like any other white powder until you get it wet.

I was horrified recently when I was quoted a price for CuSO4 and decided that making my own was far more fiscally responsible.
It's not like dissolving copper scrap in Sulfuric Acid is particularly challenging....

add some uranium.

For what? the kind of uranium you can get without having the FBI and an NEST team showing up at your door doesn't glow.

the OTHER kind of uranium that doesn't glow? I'll send you a piece if you want some...

Also i noticed that hydrogen peroxide is only 3% which might be the problem becuase every vid i look at use a better grade of hydrogen peroxide ..

3% Hydrogen peroxide is worthless for anything other than as a topical germicide for killing anerobic bacteria

Hair bleach is MUCH stronger stuff. typically 10% plus.

Anything more than 20% H2O2 will probably again cause the humorless people of the FBI knocking at your door...
IF you can get anyone to sell it to you.

You shoulda seen the funny looks I got back around 20 years ago when I tried to buy 100kilos
of potassium cyanide.... (I was setting up a gold recovery system)

these days??? I've had recent trouble even buying reasonably pure Sodium Hydroxide in quantity without
a lot of strange questions. (and I only want 15-ish kilos of it)

And I can hardly wait to try to buy more Phosphorous pentoxide (anhydrous)....

And right about now I could use a gallon or two of Aqua Regia...
(There are several ounces of platinum I could recover)
HCL is easy to get (any REAL hardware store) but asking for Nitric Acid gets you some funny looks...

Yes, I stand corrected on that.

i got my chemicals the easy way, pool supplies and home depot

i needed sodium hydroxide, drano is made from it.
i needed hydrogen chloride, sold at the pool supply shop as alge killer.

You are not learning if you are asking us!!!! It's called trial and error

we're not required to make a long lasting one for the lab, the lab that we are doing is simply for experimenting, which me and my lab partners have already done a ton of.

we just need a long lasting one for the competition between the labs
