Anybody familiar with this large fitting on p/s pump?

I should have removed the o-ring for another picture but it's also tapered underneath it... my opinion is that seal is designed to be tapered like that but I've never seen a new one so I can't say for sure. In any case the pump seal kits you can buy at the parts stores only come with a normal o-ring for that spot so they must feel that it is OK... I don't really care for it, a normal o-ring doesn't fit very well.
The bigger o ring is just an o ring, they look tapered after they've been installed for a while. When the C II pump was introduced, it's biggest feature was that it could be rebuilt by shops and I rebuilt dozens of them. I've got at least one seal kit because my Mustang and Ranger both run C II pumps. I think the only parts you can buy now are seal kits. The flow is different between pumps used on rack and pinion systems and recirculating ball boxes, with the rack needing less flow or it will have a squirrelly road feel.

Thanks for the clarification on that - it threw me off because of the tapered outside and the tapered groove that it sits in.
