Anybody ever run retreads on a 4x4 Ranger?

I have retreads on my F150. Got them for free and they have been great.

I would not run them on a dedicated wheeling rig. I have seen a situation where a wheel got bound up and the glued on tread ripped off the tire. Not cool.

I've never ran them personally but a friend of mine had a set of 33s on a zuk and drove from CA to GA when he moved and then drove from his house in Atlanta to my house in mid TN several times. Said he had nearly 30K miles on them.

The first tire shop in Oliver Springs sells them brand new for a good price. I was gonna get some for my Grand Cherokee before I got the Explorer. I think he was about $75 or so for 31s.

Thanks guys! Strvgr I'm gonna check those out too. Azhrei sent you a pm. The one's this guy had had crap all over the side walls, are they normally like that? Like melted rubber. Kinda looked like they had been on a truck for a day and had rash on the side walls but still had the molding on the treads?

those aren't Treadwright's i'll bet! had 2 mechanics at a general repair/tire shop look mine over for 20 minutes trying to figure out the tread pattern while looking at the Michelin logo on the sidewalls. they are very, very hard to tell from a regular tire. sidewalls will be smooth and you won't see where the remolded tread starts unless you look really close.

bottom line, i wouldn't get those. just my $.02.

Nothing wrong with retreads as long as they are properly made and properly inflated.

if you run them at too low of a pressure, they will head up and blow the cap.

of course, i had some firestones on my steer tires ones, blew the cap like a retread, but they were brand new tires, figure that one out.

I have retreads before. They were great would do burnouts and power brake on them. I have about 20,000 on them. They were used for winter tires and the tired i would use for truck pulls. I used them one summer cuase i didnt have the money for a new set. I would definatly buy more of them. The garage where i get the work i cant do mostly state inspections done that all he runs on his 3/4 ton truck.

Back when I was in school and cash was in short supply I ran retreads. Never had a problem.

They are good enough for 100k mile a year OTR rigs at 80k plus pounds. Your Ranger won't hurt them.

I know this isnt quite the same thing but my dad runs them on his on his 18wheeler and has for years and he loves them. Theres a certan brand he buys but I can't rememebr what one. He has never had one fail and he runs ALOT. East cost to west over and over
