Any new firearm purchases?

For $100 stay away from pistol dots and buy a good set of irons. The dots that cheap are junk. Holosun has the cheapest reliable pistol optics, $200-300. You might find a screaming deal on black friday? But you also need to look at mounting. Either milled slide, a dovetail mount (please dont) or compatability with an existing optics cut. If your gun has no cut and you want to cut one, youre going to spend 500 or more before its all over. Ive tried to short cut it every way you slice it, something ends up not working reliably unless its bolted to the slide, and a good quality rds. Cheap pre cut slides give you problems you never asked for.

He seems to have mounting solution built in with the pic rail, just needs an optic mount that fits it. I agree though, it's going to be difficult to find a good optic that come in under $180 (paid 179 according to post 1). Lots of cheapies that might or might not work and last, I've used some on 22 cal stuff with success, but not many good quality options in that price point.

Considering that the gun is more or less a rifle action with a pistol grip and short barrel, maybe look at what's available for rifle optics. I'd recommend looking at PSA because they'll run sales on Vortex and others. I think that the current sales for decent rifle red dots for <$200 are all more tube type.

I was afraid of that... its why I asked.

And @RobbieD i don't really care from a battery in my gun sightss either. I was willing to give it try though.

I had a really hard time pulling front/rear sights and the target together all at the same time. I'm just not sure fiber optics will fix it.

And yeah... it has a rail already. My other thought was its not on the action... so there is a bit less abuse on the optic.

I'll keep looking... maybe find a better option on a black Friday deal.

You're right, I should've looked up the gun. Its not reciprocating, I'd give the pistol dot from burris. . . Bushnell? a try. You'll need a pic rail adapter plate. Depending on caliber, a 3x pistol scope might suprise your liking!
Edit: BUSHNELL, not burris. The reciprocation is what kills cheap dots.. . To a point. Some at those prices fail off recoil alone.

"I'm sorry; but batteries belong in toys and dildos, not firearms."

BUT, like you, if I found a deal on an actually decent dot sight, I'd be willing to try it too, on a rig like yours.

With a break-action single shot pistol, each round really, really counts. It sucks a big one to not see like we used to; if a new-fangled high-technology gun sight is what makes it enjoyable for you to use, then why not?

Damn it; next you guys will have me talked into getting a cell phone . . . o_O

If you wear glasses amd ever have the chance give the Holosun 510 a try. Idk what they did but its remarkably clear to my slight far sightedness. And also focus your target, NOT the dot. Im an eotech guy personally but I like the holosuns.

I prefer to have nonbattery backup systems incase the powered ones fail. I don't have reflex sights on my pistols but all of my rifles have iron sights that can be used if the scope fails. The rifle either gets tilted 45 degress for pop up sights or the scope has quick release rings.

So, ai would recommend making sure you can see the iron sights through the optic and if you can't get iron sights tall enough that you can. Because Murphy's Law happens.

Nothing to do with your post, but. . . Fellow line service tech?? :D

Nope, I work on aircraft fuel tanks for a living. I'm the dumb S.O.B. that climbs in the tanks and fixes whatever is wrong.

So... looking for an optic suggestions for my brawler. I have zero experience with optics on a hand gun. I know i don't want a tube or magnification... just a red dot. I also don't want to exceed the price of the Brawler while doing this.

I have a couple three Bushnell scopes and have had good luck. The reviews on the one put me here to ask some advice...

Bushnell red dot sight with 4 MOA dot, 8 brightness, long battery, and rugged construction for training, home defense, and hunting. You don't want to miss it! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08DL8M2PB?tag=959media-20

I have that red dot. It'll do perfectly well on the brawler. Brightness settings are really nice... The only thing is that the dot itself isn't exactly super crisp around the edges.. especially on higher brightness settings.. it gets slightly 'muddy' if you will. It'll still drill a bullseye though.. that's what matters.
