Any new firearm purchases?

I'm not the type of individual who's against the idea of taking a calculated risk but... Yeah... I'm definitely not that 'brave' lol. I hope the best for those who are.

Ahh.. alright. I just always figured a bill that goes as far to ban the purchase of something would also either require its surrender or at the very least leaving it at home.

I always liked the mini-14 growing up.. didn't take much to sweet talk me into an AR platform though once I was old enough to buy my own. Much more modular naturally but.. no real need for special tools to work on an AR.. parts are much more plentiful & cheaper for the AR platform.. just seemed like the objectively better route to go.

Its a real shame about that canoe accident I had.. unfortunately lost the contents of my entire safe 🥲

Are you still in Illinois? Does your dream state to the North still allow the purchase of freedom?
You can still buy them in Michigan... at least for now.

But sadly... I'm still here in Illinois.

Youll get there sooner than later I'm sure.

Housing market seems to be taking a dump just about everywhere other than New England.. should be able to find a sweet deal on a prime piece of property up that way right about now..

Talking about this brave thing. I think there's a difference between taking full advantage of what's allowed and being stupid. General public frowns upon the NFA firearms, SBR, SBS, MG, Ailencer, etc. They are perfectly legal to own following the right rules, but the general public thinks that they are completely evil. Broadly speaking the reason that the NFA restrictions and past bans have been allowed to stand is the common use clause, or they aren;t in common use. The more of them that are legally owned and in cirulation, the more exist in common use, and the more ammunition we have for overturning the restrictions.

If we break the rules and falunt it, that's just giving them ammunition to use against us. Illegal ownership and blatant display of MGs just paints a negative picture for them to use, regardless of how the firearm was actually used. The courts, jurys, and public aren't looking at the fact that this guy illegally owned them, they only see people with a MGs and lump them all together. People flaunting shouldered pistol braces all over the internet, the general public sees an SBR loophole. Binary and FRT triggers rapid firing all over the internet, that's just ammunition to use against people because the public sees machine gun.

Fighting while working within the system is smart and brave. Flaunting things like illegal ownership of MGs or silencers, "questionable" use of braced pistols, and rapid fire from bump stocks, binary triggers, or FRT. That's stupid, not brave.

That's my opinion and you aren't likely to "change my mind" there, so take it for what it's worth to you.

Both of these recent acquisitions are Turkish manufacture, which some people look down on.

Every country can make good and bad firearms. Just look at us here. You've got everything from top dollar (take your pick) to the lowest of the low (IE: SCCY, Highpoint, etc). I've never owned a Turk shotgun, but the Turks do make some good guns. I can't speak for many of the brands listed, but will say take a Canik for a spin. Damn good guns at a damn good price.

Now back to the topic of the thread. Brought two "new" ones home today. Not new, not even new to me, but new to my collection (for now). Couple from dad's collection came over for a long term visit. Pardon the photos, they are from a photo inventory we made 15-20 years ago. Will have to get some new ones when I can get good light setup.

The Single Six I want to add to my collection as a 22 caliber companion to the NM Super Blackhawk I bought a little while back. The Pietta got rusted and siezed up from sitting. Not sure I'll use it, but do want to get it cleaned up and servicable. Managed to get the action freed up this afternoon. Need to figure out disassembly (google search will answer that) and figure out how to properly clean and treat the corrosion.

I just heard of the Mini 14 here. I like it! I've always had a thing for wooden stock rifles.

I want to like them, they are a scaled down M14 and the mechanism is really cool.

Accuracy seems all over the place (some are good, most are ok) and they are not really competitively priced in a world full of AR's that do the same thing better.

I'm about the same on the Mini. Main allure of them to me is the A-Team connection. Not quite strong enough to buy one though.

The mini 14 for me just fits in with the other Ruger carbines I have. I'm pretty well covered from squirrels to bear... the mini puts me into .223/5.56 camp for longer distance varmit duty... or if the world goes sideways.

I'm not a Ruger guy really but the Mini 30 looks pretty cool too. Mainly because I like SKS's.

The pistol brace rule debacle is a good example of the common use test, there are probably hundreds of thousands of those out there if not millions and yet the ATF had the gall to tell us that they were not in common use (the precedent was 200,000 in the stun gun case back in the 90's.) What bothers me the most is that they are not enforcing the law as Congress wrote it - they are making their own rules and interpreting things in a wildly different way than the law was written. Then they just get away with it.

Washington Gun Law on YouTube has a lot of good content about this stuff, check him out if you are interested in all the current court cases.
